I think him seeing Jay win in 2 years despite getting a few key players made him feel like he was closer than he thought. That almost seems like false hope though. Maybe his dad passing really did suck the life out of him and he needed to reset.

I would actually root for SC with Paul in charge. Not with a vested interest, but I would like to see him do well…not at LSU’s expense though

Dude was burnt out of the grind by his retirement here and wanted nothing to do with the portal/NIL era coming.

And let’s be honest. His “retirement” was certainly a strong suggestion from the LSU administration.

I just don't see it. Mainieri was, by his own admission, burnt out of coaching at a high profile program when he retired. He pulled his name out of both the Notre Dame and Miami jobs in the last 2 years. He and his wife just built a house a couple of doors down from his daughter. I find it hard to believe South Carolina would actually consider him or that he'd actually get his wife's approval to un-retire and enter another meatgrinder 700+ miles away from his grandchildren at his age. He certainly doesn't need the money either.

Good hire. He is a lot better than LSU’s current coach. Skenes kept him from being exposed

This might be the worst hire in college baseballl history. NIL and transfer portal is about to eat him alive.

This is so bad for USC the game passed him by years ago

What are they thinking?

I wonder if they tried to get in touch with Elander? I'm def glad they didn't take him but would have been x1000 better hire than PM. I question their AD's competence.

he basically gave up on recruiting his last 3 or 4 years

He signed Dylan Crews and Tre Morgan during his last class. I realize that Nolan Cain did the leg work but he could set up a similar situation with USCe.
