This. 2012 was probably the strongest year in conference history (could make an argument for the SEC having 6 of the top 10 teams at season's end) and it was largely because the QB play was outstanding.
Murray
Manziel
McCarron
Mettenberger
Shaw
All of them were among the best QBs in college football. Florida was also very good even though they had Driskel. Even most of the teams who weren't as good still had decent QB play.
Wilson
Franklin
Wallace
Bray

In 2016, you have Nick Saban and Gus Malzahn.

Those are the only two coaches in this league who have won an SEC title. And one of them, you could argue, got his ring on a fluke.
I don't think his SEC title was a fluke as much as other teams figuring out his gimmick offense. So really, it is Saban. Maybe in the next couple of years LSU can get back. Only time will tell.

We've got some green horn SEC coaches right now.
McElwain (5yrs HC)
Smart (1 yr HC)
Muschamp (5 yrs HC)
Mason (3 yrs HC)
Freeze (6yrs HC)
Malzhan (5yrs HC)
Stoops (4 yr HC)
Odom (1 yr HC)
Over half of the conference coaches have 5 or less yrs of HC experience.

Yes, which is why the Big 10 has caught up to you guys. They now have Urban, Harbs, Dantonio, Franklin etc.

Coaching is starting to drag this league down because now you have one great coach, one or two good ones, and the rest range from mediocre to downright awful.

This was posted a while back:
List according the article, Foxsports SEC Coaches Ranking:
1. Nick Saban — Alabama
2. Hugh Freeze — Ole Miss
3. Kevin Sumlin — Texas A&M
4. Bret Bielema — Arkansas
5. Butch Jones — Tennessee
6. Jim McElwain — Florida
7. Gus Malzahn — Auburn
8. Dan Mullen — Mississippi State
9. Ed Orgeron — LSU
10. Derek Mason — Vanderbilt
11. Will Muschamp — South Carolina
12. Kirby Smart — Georgia
13. Barry Odom — Missouri
14. Mark Stoops — Kentucky
There's a whole lot of absolute shite on that list.
#2 is 19-19 in conference games.
#3 is 21-18 in conference games.
#7 is the only coach behind Saban with a title.
#9 is being actively campaigned for by LSU fans to keep the job. (Think about that -- in a list of absolutely shitty coaches, Ed O is #9, and some LSU fans want to keep him vs bringing in a guy who is immediately #2 on this list).

They now have Urban, Harbs, Dantonio, Franklin etc
They were 36-4 (.900 winning percentage) since the beginning of the 2013 season going into the playoffs last year. Those four losses came to Notre Dame, Oregon, Ohio state and Nebraska. Their wins included 2 B1G0 championships, the Rose Bowl and the Cotton Bowl.
Counting the playoff debacle, they've lost 8 of their last 11 games (.273), to powerhouses like Indiana, Illinois, Maryland and BYU.

Do you even know what that means?
Auburn went out and bought the best football player out there at the time. They made moves and got him, and won a championship with him. I bet it wouldn't be a fluke if he decided to wear crimson instead

The fact that you don't even know what year I am talking about tells me you have no business responding to anyone's posts in this thread. I'm referring to 2013, not 2010.

QB play is a symptom of poor coaching/recruiting.

Probably not as bad as graduation and the draft broke them. That was a senior heavy team

Perhaps the first time ever that there is considerably more pedigree in the SEC basketball coaching ranks than in football.

Can't argue with this. The Big 10 and ACC have definitely closed the gap in this area.

In the east it is. McElwain is the most respected coach in the east division.

Someone take Mullen, we're split 50/50 on him. It's causing division amongst the fanbase.

Inside the conference, you could say that every coach in the west ,maybe with the exception of sumlin, is better than any coach in the east. Who is the best coach in the east? McElwain?

a fluke.
You have no room to talk about other coaches on this aspect. Your coach has everything he does because of a fluke.
