Of course all the hog fans are going to say Petrino ... but meh. Were they really that good with him? Don't really see any major accomplishments with their savior at the helm.

I would say one that certainly was a difference maker was not in this conference but the Big 10 -- when the Nubs fired Ol' Pee Pants Himself : Bo Pelini.

Kind of crazy they shot themselves in the foot like that.

It was so bad, even Nutt jumped ship to a better program.

I'd argue the Fulmer firing is up there. Vols have only now seemed to have any kind of consistency as a winner since.

No, not firing him earlier screwed us. Mike Hamilton passing hiring Gary Patterson and hiring Lane Kiffin is what really screwed UT. Brian Kelly, who wanted the job, would have been better than Kiffin.
Fulmer actually made the necessary change. Dave Clawson was an excellent hire as OC but it was a really ugly year one. I expect he’d have got it going eventually. I guarantee you Fulmer wouldn’t have cratered like Dooley, Jones and Pruitt did.

Not a safe guarantee considering he had 2 5 win season in a 4 year period.

RC Slocum comes to mind for me at A&M.

Dude guided the program through the fallout from Jackie Sherrill’s shenanigans and was able to stay reasonably competitive despite an AD that handcuffed him on facility upgrades. Never had a season below .500 and won a few conference championships. The argument would be he played against teams in a weaker conference, I suppose. His bowl record wasn’t great.

But A&M hasn’t won a conference since he left.

Mark Richt. At least that's what I was told when we did it.

The correct answer here is, Nolan Richardson. Claimed racism, sued the university, turned Bud Walton into a crypt for 2 decades.

Almost mind-blowing.

I still remember Parker hitting the corner of the end zone to beat Kansas State.

Bo Pelini at Nebraska never won fewer than 9 games in a season over 7 years.

He was done. Hated recruiting and UF thought NIL was a passing fad.

By 2020 he was checked out, but we had a stacked offense that could run with anyone. Even then we lost 4 games.

He was over coaching college once NIL hit and thought the NFL would come calling.

I was a junior in HS on my way home after playing in a playoff game. I had heard that A&M won and I had recorded the game knowing I’d miss it. I got home after midnight but stayed up and watched the whole game. And then proceeded to watch the overtime 2 more times.
