5. Alabama $105.0 million
7. Auburn $100.4 million
8. Tennessee $97.5 million
11. LSU $91.7 million
15. Kentucky $82.8 million
18. Georgia $80.7 million
19. So. Carolina $80.5 million
20. Arkansas $79.3 million
22. Texas A&M $78.3 million
32. Mizzou $64.1 million
46. Arizona State $57.0 million
50. Miss State $51.5 million
53. Ole Miss $47.1 million
Here is what I'm willing to bet: Within 6 years, A&M's expenditures will be on par with Florida's, Bama's, Auburn's, Tenn's, and LSU's. If I'm wrong, I'll never post again. (Down side...Even if I'm wrong, you have top put up with me for 6 years).

That is fricking sad.
I've been to several Pac-12 games in Corvallis, Pullman and Seattle. While it can get very exciting and loud (the Beavers beating #1 USC on Thursday night was a great game), there is no comparison at all to the SEC. Haven't been to Autzen yet but it's sad they haven't expanded it yet. It routinely draws 5k more than the official capacity of 54k (yeah, 54k!). There's a reason LSU scheduled a home and home with the Huskies. It's the only college stadium up here worthy of hosting a big time event.

I don't care enough to bet, but I give you props for not being stupid enough to say A&M's expenditures will ever catch up to the Whorns.
I wouldn't bet that LSU ever catches up to Florida or Bama in terms of money. I think LSU is already getting about as much as is possible out of our alumni and fans.

we could start taking state money to close the gap
Posted on 7/31/12 at 1:27 pm to heartbreakTiger
Just to be clear, I don't think A&M's expenditures in six years will be more than any of those schools (Florida, Bama, Auburn, Tenn, and LSU). I just think we'll be close, and we will be above all the other SEC schools.

Is this based on conjecture or your predictive model from the OP?
Posted on 7/31/12 at 1:33 pm to Pigimus Prime
I didn't give a predictive model in the OP. I laid out some facts.
My reason for thinking that A&M's expenditures will be growing faster than other schools in the SEC is threefold: 1) Our almuni base continues to expand as we flood our older alumni base with Ags that attended a much larger school than the old Ags before them. Older alumni have money, and they want season tickets. 2) Our previous budgets were based on Big 12 TV money. We're going to start getting SEC TV money. 3) A much larger stadium will be finished by then.

If a school has a built-in alumni base through a strong religious tie-in, that can cause them to have a large fan base even while having a comparatively small alumni base. If a school is the main school in a region without professional sports, then that can cause them to have a lot of "t-shirt fans." Neither of those exceptions apply to A&M.
So what "exceptions" do you attribute to Auburn or Clemson being in the top 10 list you posted.
Although I do like how you attribute 40% of the top 10 list you posted as being exceptions or outliers, it makes the point you are trying to prove all that much more believable

Can you find another school that added at least 13,243 students from 1971-1990? Maybe you can. I'd like to see it.
I can give a more recent example, in a smaller time perid. Alabama had a student body of around 18,735 when I was a freshmen in 2001. Elven years later Alabama has a student body of 31,747.

That's an outlier or exception, it doesnt count

Did this enrollment boom have anything to do with letting people who are mentally retarded, like Rick Perry, into the school?

Alabama will have added more students in the 20 year time period the OP has referenced, if UA reaches its 38,000 enrollment goal by 2015. It will likely be closer to 40,000 by then, at the rate its growing. But I'm just sharing statistics. I don't have a freaking clue what this thread is about.

Wow. I had no idea that Bama had grown that much, and that recently.
How does a school with such a small alumni base have such a massive fan base? There has to be something to the pro sports thing, because you don't find that anywhere except Alabama and South Carolina and, to a lesser extent Arkansas.
(Why haven't the Mississippi school been able to capitalize on the lack of regional pro sports competition?)

Is that not obvious? Football is king.

Do you just pull these statements out of your arse? serious question

We love our football in Texas, too, but there is no school in Texas that has managed to pull a fanbase like Alabama and Auburn have with comparable size alumni bases.

I was just assuming the OP was talking about Alabama's large "sidewalk fanbase". I don't even try to argue against it anymore.
