Most of us know Clay did not lead the revolt in 2017, so not really. Local media were already getting the attention of state politicians before Clay even caught wind of the situation.
But in the end - the only reason this was axed was due to big boosters threatening to pull their support.

I think he gets a 4th year - only because Pruitt was about to get one as well - then he would’ve been inevitably fired after another 6-6 or worse season.

The fact that you also think Schiano would be as bad as Pruitt is ridiculous. Rutgers was night and day better under him in his first year and he didn't even have spring ball to implement anything. Not sure why you Tenners refuse to admit he's a good coach.

Becuase he’s not. I watched him choke a big lead to Lovie Smith of all people. We never would’ve won 8 games like Pruitt did in 2019 - but he also would’ve finished better than 3-7 this year.

Fair enough but you knew when you typed it that wasn't what I meant. The point is that Schiano would've been 3-4 years and out like all the others but media and peeps on tRant all act like we told Neyland, Bear, and Saban to all go frick themselves.

He got fired from his last 3-4 jobs before Rutgers rehired him and we are supposed to pretend he’s good.

Sorry - but Fox Sports Knoxville and Basilio led the charge on ousting Schiano. Clay just got national attention.
But like I said - the boosters pulled the plug, not fans or media. If they didn’t pull support the hire would’ve gone through. Don’t kid yourself.

I'm not saying he was alone, but he was definitely in the front row of the torch and pitchfork crowd.

Clay was piggy backing off local media and claimed credit - like the douchebag he is. The front lines were the Fox Sports guys.

Not really. I despise Clay but he didn't get Schiano canned. Clay took advantage of a situation that had already developed and claimed victory.
IOW, Clay would tell you he was the leader but the truth is he's a media leech like all the others and in the case of Schiano, he joined in on something that had already started and claimed credit for it after. He's an opportunist.

I don’t disagree. But everyone who cared about it was already in on it before Clay jumped in. He just brought the blue check mark brigade out and aware.

I think we can agree that he's a massive douche.

It’s embarrassing he took credit for it. While guys like Basilio and FSN had live emergency shows for like 16 hours that day - and you had Jon Reed on campus organizing the protest.

With 7-8 wins a year under Schiano Tenner would at least have a program a quality coach would jump at. Instead, you've got Chumlee.

And they were picking it up after someone googled Schiano and found the article and put it out there on the various boards. People forget that the article was fresh because the testimony had only been unsealed AFTER Schiano had been at tOSU for a while and the case was out of the spotlight. It wasn't there for people to react to until UT tried to hire him.

I don't think you really understand just how awful Rutgers was when they hired him. They averaged 6 points per game vs Big 10 schools in 2019 under Chris Ash. He was able to up that to 27 per last year. That same Illinois team you are giving him shite for losing to 23-20? They beat Rutgers 38-10 the year before.
They are clearly worlds better and he hasn't even got a full recruiting class on the field yet.

People said that about Butch - and it led to us getting Schiano/Pruitt.

He won’t win 6 games at Rutgers.
Posted on 1/27/21 at 4:52 pm to KellerChrystFan
With that said - yeah of course he’s going to improve Rutgers. Doesn’t mean he still wouldn’t get his arse fired at Tennessee.
