Terry Bowden

Thanks. That would qualify. He didn't win a champoinship, but he did go 11-0 (not 13-0) his first season after coming from 1-AA.

But, he wasn't a loser who was about to get fired before he went to Auburn, was he? Similarities, but still some differences.

Nice logic Evolved Simian.

I guess since Chizik is doing in Year 2 what Saban did in Year 3, Chizik > Saban.

Langham led the program to probation by signing his name on a napkin

Saban had 3 6-win seasons at Michigan Sate and one at Bammer

Meyer just had his worst season as a HC- 7-5

Meyer has 2 titles and 4 top 5 finishes

Saban has 2 titles and 2 top 5 finishes

Meyer > Saban

If only I knew you actually believed that.

its pretty obvious saban is the best coach in the sec. its just he is so demanding, all the time, i dont think he can stay at a program long. he knows what it takes to win, its just up to the players to execute IMO. the problem is, i think the players start hating him, but he cant slow down. he wants all you got all the time, and these kids see he isnt what he puts out to be during recruiting (as a lot of coaches are). but as much as i hate it, saban is probably the best coach in the SEC in the past 25 years. the man can flat out coach a football team.

gene stallings was 27-45 at texas aTm then went 70-16 at alabama.

Good answer. But, Stallings didn't go straight from A&M to Alabama. There was a gap of many years. He also coached in the NFL, didn't he?

It also took him 3 years to win the national title. But, yeah, Stallings is a good answer.

So far, we have Stallings at Alabama and Bowden at Auburn as the only answers that even come close.

You mean the same Iowa State that Dan McCarney took to five bowl games in the seven years before Chizik

So why was Dan McCarney fired?

I obviously don't believe that.

Just like Simian doesn't really believe that those other two arse clowns are better than Chizik.

Yeah, Coach Stallings was an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys for several years. Then coached the Cardinals if I recall correctly. He went 11-1 his second year at Alabama with the only loss coming to Florida(a blowout unfortunately)

do YOU think Meyer is a better coach than Saban, or are you just playing devils advocate?

Not much on reading comprehension, eh?

My analysis is not centered on any rival of ISU. Rather, it is a snapshot of what a coach does relative to others with the same opportunity.

Chizik was a miserable failure at ISU, despite his predecessor's relative success. His successor came in and increased their record by five wins.

Be thankful for the Gus/Cam perfect storm. Chiz is a garbage coach, who is about to make a $1.5 mil bonus on the backs of the best OC and QB in the game right now.

Bama had WAY more talent that Bama fans would admit at the time. Saban took that talent and coached them up. He didn't go 12-2 in his second year off of freshmen. They downplayed Shula's talent to pump up Saban and cover for any problems he had his first year.

I'm talking about a losing coach coming from a losing program to a big, prestigious school that was struggling and in TWO years putting that team in the national championship game

Auburn is not a big prestigious school

come on now. he did bring them here. he is obviously smart enough to surround himself with a good staff. i think if gus leaves, he will replace him with the best in the biz.

Seriously? I bet I can find quite a few NFL players off that team that lost to La-Monroe- starting with the QB
