That is if the coaching staff does their jobs.

That's the play. Could have sworn it was Bates.

He did have several REALLY dirty plays that game though, including 1 or 2 late hits that didnt get called. I was jumping up and down screaming at the tv like, wtf?!?!

Yeah, he ripped a guy's helmet clean off during the Utah State game

I hope he's benched for Saturday's game, anyways. I hate seeing him go for the knockout and miss every single tackle he attempts. It gets aggrevating. Bama needs to send us some fricking linebackers, for sure.

Is a flaming idiot. You've been given your answer multiple times over the past few days in thread after thread, but you insist everyone is avoiding your question. Stop.
quote:

Ted Roof

Needs to pull his crap together or be drug off the Plains. It's time to stop making excuses and expect results.
quote:

Gene Chizik

Is a relatively hands-off, "let the people I hired do their job" kind of coach. That being said, it's time for him to step in with Roof. We were calling for his head around this time last year, but a lot of that quieted down as the season went on because Fairley stepped up and hey, we were undefeated.

Mississippi State

Is going to give us a much better indication of how we're going to be this year. Now that all the first game jitters are out of the way, we should be able to get a more accurate look at our line play and secondary play. If Roof decides the current game plan will fly in the SEC, it's gonna be a long season.

Can we stop the ridiculous, back-and-forth nonsense now?

what personnel and scheme related changes are they talking about on the plains?

-- Getting Eltoro Freeman in at LB. Freeman, Holland, and Evans is going to be the best group, imo.

-- Finding the best combo up front on the DL. We did a ton of rotating... hopefully there's enough info to make an educated decision on who should start. Let's get some guys in a rythm up front.

-- Bring more pressure. Our gameplan was vanilla, to say the least against USU. In fact, I don't think we really had one. We'll play tighter coverage in the secondary.

How are we going to bring more pressure if Holland can't get a vanilla defense lined up correctly? Until he can do that, don't hold your breath for more pressure or more complex defenses.

Very nice summary on all counts. Also, Roof said in his post game interview that they played something like 26 players on defense Saturday. That's way too many.

This is a big problem. If your captain cant get you in the right formation on defense, then you may need to look for someone else to get the plays in.

I agree and that's the point i have been trying to make for the past couple days. Everyone wants to run Roof out on a rail and wants Chiz to go press coverage and bring blitzes and on and on. Until you can get the basic d lined up correctly, the rest of the defensive playbook is staying in the drawer.

Yeah, Bama got spoiled with Rolando in 08-09. He was a GREAT leader on the Defense. We didnt really have a solid, consistent, leader last year and it showed at times. We still ended up with a great defense, especially considering its shorcomings in terms of experience. But there were some times when you could tell the leadership on the field wasnt what it had been the 2 years before.

I think that problem may be solved this year though. Hightower is healthy and that will go a long way for his confidence which will in turn do a LOT for his leadership.

I hope some experience will help Holland catch on quick. There really isn't a lot of upperclassmen leadership on the defense for him to lean on. Eltoro is a senior but he is obviously not starting because he can't get the defense lined up either. It's the blind leading the blind right now.

Hell, he can't line himself up, much less anyone else...

Something I picked up over lunch with them this afternoon was adding some toppings to the
vanilla. They said for sure adding some scoops of strawberry and chocolate to the mix. Wasn't sure what that all meant, but I headed to get some icecream afterwards.
