Les Miles at Tennessee would be a good fit.

This is the exact stupid shite we expect out of the powers that be at UT.

This is the thinking that has us where we are today.

If the powers that be at UT had any sense...huge IF...

They would throw money at Bob Stoops until he says yes or gets a restraining order.

No, they will try to go on the cheap and we'll get some stupid shite like Mike Norvell, Tee Martin, or some unknown from the Ohio Valley Conference.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they fired Butch and made Hoke, Shoop, or Scott the permanent head coach.

If there is any way possible to make a lateral move and save a dollar, while spinning it as a fantastic hire. UT will find it.

He lost to Lsu as well. His offense worked in the PAC. Whole different style of play.

He had the #1 rated offense in the nfl his first two years. But I'm sure the mighty SEC defenses are better, amirite?

How the hell do you go on the cheap by paying a $9.2mm buyout?

It's not really a 9.2 million buy out. It's a 6 million buyout with debate over whether or not this year should be counted as salary or as buyout. If it's salary it's more expensive. If it's counted as a buyout it's far cheaper.

Regardless, UT has plenty of money and several billionaire boosters. The problem is they often want to be tight asses who interfere too much.

That's looks like an exercise in mental masturbation but OK. One thing for sure. I wouldn't do a thing with Jones until I knew I had someone at least on paper, exceeded Jones' ceiling. Kelly might be the answer but you really don't know how he would have done without the Nike money. Plus, he got them on probation. Bob Stoops is probably the only guy that I would spend $15mm on (buyout plus his salary). Both Kelly and Stoops are open market. You could nail them down anytime, unlike the other coaches that are active.

This right here....

They have billions but want to save $2 million per year on a coach.

The boosters want to be able to call the shots. That is the reason David Blackburn was not hired as AD.

We have a Mike Hamilton protégé as AD who will be more interested in fund raising, installing 'premium seating', and doing another damned stadium renovation.

UT could easily pay $10 million per for a coach if they wanted. They won't.

Lol I don't think he made his college choice just based on the shitty coach. Tee was the one everyone thought was going to UT, but he turned out to be a really smart kid too

Yep. Took Bellotti a lot of years to build that program up along with healthy financial injections from Knight/NIKE.

Stoops, however, has already taken one national brand somewhat gone derelict and turned them back into a national power. Might be a long shot but I'd take him first if I could get him.

Hey, dumbass, Tee Martin didn't want his son to play for Butch Jones. It's not exactly a fricking secret.

Kelly's a yankee. He doesn't suffer fools gladly. And he's a bit socially inept in that he prefers talking only about football, to the point folks wonder if he's got Aspergers. He also keeps his private life extremely private.

Culturally, socially, this weird little dude from NH is not a good fit for the rabid rednecks of TN. He knows it & if he comes back to college football, he ain't living in Knoxville.

That's cute that you think he'd even consider coming there. He will be UCLA or USC's coach next year.

Not that you can't get a good head coach, but he's West Coast all day.

Stoops would be a homerun hire for any school, but he retired from a program that was rolling and coming in top 5

What makes y'all think he doesn't actually want to be retired? This wasn't an Urban like retirement

It happened too suddenly. There is something in the woodpile concerning Stoops sudden "retirement".

My personal opinion? If I had to to guess...I think Bob got caught with his dick in his hand. A booster's wife or daughter. Something along those lines. It was too sudden and too hushed.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
