We won the SEC Title, SECT Title, went to the Sweet 16 and lost in OT to a team that was a half-court shot away from playing for the national title.
Not bad for an up and comer.

You mean that as an insult but no, no it wasn't. It was a great year for us after only going to 2 NCAA Tournaments in 14 seasons and 0 S16s since 2004.

Kind of like an Outback Bowl win had Arkansas fans in a state of euphoria whereas an Outback Bowl appearance for us would have led to everybody asking which coaches to fire.

It is what it is. Got to start somewhere.

Not really.

Literally just comparing programs, expectations and starting points.

I didn't mean that as a troll to Arkansas football. Arkansas fans should have been excited - they came from nothing and Pittman was showing promise and building a great foundation. Same with us in basketball. But, like with you guys in football, expectations grow as you win and so while a 6 seed and 1st round loss in 2018 would have been widely cheered this year it is looked at as a bit of a disappointment. If Arkansas goes 7-5 next year and goes to the Music City Bowl folks won't want to fire him but there will be some disappointment.......whereas that happening in 2020 would have been cheered from the mountaintops. It's just the magic of expectations.

Hell that analogy barely works. A Regular Season Title, Tournament Title, and Sweet 16 appearance would objectively be Arkansas 1st or 2nd best season in the past 25 years

No idea what this has to do with the conference as a whole over-valuing the meaning of a conference title as it pertains to the national stage.

Didn't realize that was the conversation - I just saw it come from some Auburn fan trying to cope and saw us brought p.

If we'd lost to Iona or Maryland last year the season certainly wouldn't have had the same feel, for sure.

You're good. I was simply pointing out that winning the conference has not automatically resulted in having the most success on the national stage in current trends.

Exactly. If you value Elite 8 over Sweet 16, Conference Title, and Tournament Title, that's fine. But by that criteria, last year's Bama accomplished more than any other Arkansas team since they were National Runner-Up in 1995

valuing basketball conference titles over NCAA tournament success is like bragging about SEC West or East championships in football over SEC championships, bowl wins, or nattys.

I would 100% take an Elite 8 appearance every year over a conference title. I would choose a sweet 16 appearance over conference runner-up.

I think this is my breakdown as well

Final Four > anything conference
Elite Eight > anything conference
Sweet 16 = Conference title
Conference title > 1st/2nd round

He really is.

Nobody tell the Hog fans. They're such a humble group and I'd hate to see it go to their head.

Duke finished as ACC regular season champ this year for the first time since 2010. Their 6 Sweet 16's, 4 Elite 8's, 1 national championship between 2011-2021 without winning their conference are undoubtedly more valuable than finishing the regular season as #1.

Basketball is and always has been about making and succeeding in the tournament.

Yep logic escapes these people george. Imagine bragging about sweet 16s and elite 8s and in same breath saying championships dont matter. Guess they think u get trophies for sweet 16 and elite 8 appearances.

Eh, none of us are Duke. Kentucky and Arkansas have elite traditions in basketball where they've, at certain periods, truly competed for national titles.

Most of us really have not. Therefore, conference accomplishments inherently mean a little more to us than the specific level of the tournament we advance to. Just kind of is what it is.
