CFN preseason rankings

quote:

these are based on how good the teams are going into the season and NOT how they're going to finish.

So this is their opinion of strength, irrespective of schedule

01. UA
02. FSU
03. Oregon
04. LSU
05. UT (Longhorn type)
06. A&M
07. UGA
08. Stanford
09. OU
10. UF
11. tOSU
12. USC
13. MSU (Sparty)
14. Clemson
15. SCar
16. OSU (Cowboys)
17. VaTech
18. Wisconsin
19. ND
20. TCU
21. Meeshigan
22. Ole Miss
23. NU
24. Mizzou
25. MSU (Bulldogs)

Two big surprises to me is the LSU love and SCar not being much higher. Also a bit of good news for Mizzou.

VA Tech is not the 17th best team on paper, maybe their schedule but not the team. Miss St is not top 25 either.

Man I really hope Ole Miss can hop up and beat the Horns. That would be classic.

I'm surprised Ohio State is so low. First poll I've seen they weren't Top 5.

Overrated, as always.

Georgia, Texas A&M, Stanford, Ohio State, Clemson, South Carolina, and Michigan would pound them (and I'm sure more of the top 25 could, I was just naming the definites).

17. VaTech
Way, way overrated. Alabama is going to pound them into oblivion the first game of the year.

OP edited. The list is their opinion of strength, not how club will finish.

Very poor research on Ohio State in that article. It lists the offensive line as a concern when everyone is back on an offensive line that performed very well last season.

Well, their write-up contradicts itself...

quote:

The backfield has a deep stable of running backs that should do even more behind a veteran line with four starters returning,

They do use the term "relative weakness" to give them some wiggle room.

Agree with both of your observances and add FSU being #2,

Seriously. The 7th best team in the SEC West is the 25th best team in the country? I don't think even the most ardent SEC SPEED!!! fan believes that.

Ohio St may be a couple of slots too low, but that is about it if you are excluding the schedule and ranking purely on the strength of the roster. I think Bama, aTm, UGA, LSU, Stanford, Oregon, FSU, UF, and USCe all have seemingly better overall teams. The reason OSU is ranked so high in the other polls is because of their weak schedule and/or conference.
