Damn, dude! You are a persistent son of a gun. Looking for anything you can, huh?
Hate to piss on your "Hope Parade", but here's some simple logic for you:
"The money was too much" is a general statement. "They gave my dad $200 grand is a specific statement. A general statement is what they heard from Cam, not a specific statement...hence the use of that phrasing in their release.

Cam himself is reported to have had a conversation with another student athlete telling him that the money wasn't enough at Mississippi State. That probably means the money was better at Auburn. This kid is no saint, he's cheated, he's stolen and tried to destroy evidence. Who believes this kid for a second? I sure as hell don't!

On a related note, I actually knew the WSB reporter who broke this story, back when we were both at AU:
Mark Winne
As far as the story itself, I hate to say it, but it looks like Cecil is hoping for intercession from a higher power. Like Slive, maybe?

Does it seem a bit...um....curious to anyone else that this is the method that Cecil Newton chooses to make his big announcement? By what? Mentioning to an aquaintance in passing? What is this??

slowly but surely the truth is coming out.

You know a really good way to find out? If Cam doesn't come out suited up, then there's a good chance his father may be getting ready to sing.

i dont think auburn is man enough to play cam newton the rest of the year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At this point of the season, does it really matter.
That depends on how bad the decision makers at Auburn want to keep their jobs. If they have, as seems likely at this point, been told that there is an NCAA investigation of Cam's eligibilty and a serious suggestion that he is ultimately going to be found ineligible, would you risk your job to protect Cam and to avoid the forfeiture of games?
If Cam is found to be ineligible and the NCAA comes down hard on Auburn for playing him despite the suggestion that he not play pending the completion of the investigation, you can rest assured some folks will lose their jobs in addition to the game forfeitures. Will the AD and Chizik, the compliance officer, and maybe even the university president, even assuming Auburn didn't pay Cam or his dad, but now knowing there is a significant likelihood that he ineligible, put their positions and careers at risk? Would you like to explain the the trustees and the alumni, supporters, etc., why you placed the school in much greater jeopardy of sanctions that could hobble the school's athletic program far more severely than if they hadn't played him after being informed of the potential problem by the NCAA?
So much more is actually at stake than just the forfeiture of games and even the loss of a potential championship season.

FYI- the "State Recruiter" Cam admitted the money was too much to was Dan Mullen.
Mullen's word to the NCAA carries alot of weight in all this...and the NCAA has already moved to looking into Auburn's recruitment of Cam

That's where this case could go from terrible to nuclear for Auburn fans.

This is clearly the precursor to the deal he will make with the FBI. Translates to I am ready to make a deal next week. What do you want?
