Yeah, just some general state pride kicking in or something.
In truth I much prefer Auburn to be pretty darned good only to see their dreams crushed in the Iron Bowl. What happened Saturday was embarrassing.

As long as Saban coaches at Bama, no one should want the AU job. The weight of the booster/fan expectations alone from the bar Bama sets is crushing.

Ahhh..there they are. The most popular two trumpeted a nauseating number of times to describe Alabama fans for becoming lukewarm on Shula and expecting to get a better coach. That's ALL you would hear during the Alabama search. That and the absurd amount of money that Alabama offered Saban that would surely ruin college football. It's so funny how 2 national titles in the last 3 years with another title possible this year has vindicated all those "delusional Alabama fans" and their "unrealistic expectations".

There is a reason that AU had to hire a dud like Chiz. It's a hard job to win consistently at
quote:I agree with you 100% ~ AU is in a mess right now (mostly due to Chizik), but the resources at AU are unlimited.
You really couldn't be more wrong. AU's a place where it is hard to NOT consistently win at.
They're certainly in a pickle now. Chiz' attrition has left them at the equal to a post-NCAA sanction talent/depth level and the new coach is going to have to run more off to restore discipline, but the problems are an indictment of Chiz rather than the program.
The facilities are great. They've got all the financial resources they need. They've got a rabid (if somewhat paranoid) fan base. They're geographically suited to easily recruit into Georgia, Tennessee, North Florida, and even the Carolinas.
Any coach that can find his arse with one hand will average 9 wins a season and contend for the west every few. A really good one will do even better.
I can't believe I just wrote this. I feel so incredibly dirty now. I need to go sacrifice a tree at the feet of Saban's statue and maybe teabag something.
It will be a tough job for whomever decides to take on the challenge. The main problem is going to be the daunting task of changing the culture around that locker room.
The next coach will have to try to change the "I don't give a shite" mentality some of those athletes currently have. I won't be easy, but someone decent will give it a try for the right amount of money.

I have a feeling the next coach will be a hard arse (BMFP) and will run off 15-20% of the players by the time spring training is done.

Severe discipline is what is needed, and I have no doubt that some of your guys won't "buy in" to that philosophy.
Good luck to y'all.
