They had a nice win against NC State, a game that they were outgained massively in total yardage. Then beat Mizzou, a team that gave up 48 to Missouri State. For reference, Missouri State was shut out the next week by North Dakota, not to be confused with FCS powerhouse North Dakota State. I think when teams figure out that they just need to kick the ball into the bleachers to keep it out of Deebo's hands, the Gamecocks are going to have a lot problems winning football games.

I think South Carolina and Georgia look way better than anyone else in the east, and to prove otherwise means to beat them.

I think UK has a shot in Columbia to do that, they haven't played well yet, but I do hope we play up to our competition. If not, it will be a long night.

They only look good in comparison to a team that struggled to beat Eastern Kentucky

I'm not saying we will win in Columbia, our offense has been hot garbage. We miss Boom, Badet and Baker a lot. Our receivers and O-line have to step up for us to have a chance. South Carolina might be better than Kentucky, but they aren't nearly as good as the praise they are getting.

You realize the only reason people are giving them a chance is because nobody from the east has looked great.

The highlights of eastern teams so far are a one point victory over a team that won 4 games last year, and an overtime victory where the victorious team gave up over 600 yards

But who in the East is, outside of UGA? The only sure thing in the SEC, is Bama.
Oh and Ole Miss won't go bowling.

I think what stood out to me was that USC plays a clean game. They don't turn the ball over and they don't make a lot of dumb mistakes. If they can't develop a running game though they'll have an issue with the other East contenders. I still think they finish 4th after UGA, Florida, and Vandy.

I don't understand the obsession with yards given up vs points given up. There some special trophy for yards in Games not won?

It's an indication against better defenses that you might not put up points. Through the first 2 games USC has scored more than half of its points off of turnovers and special teams, that's not something that will continue. USC can't average 3.3 ypc if they expect to challenge for the East. Let's remember Mizzou's defense is terrible and you managed barely 350 yards of total offense.

Why doesn't Deebo touch the ball more? I was shocked he only had 6 touches on offense.

Well said TigerCruise, they have been very opportunistic and odds are that won't continue week in and week out.

SC is running a ton of RPOs right now. If the defense is stacking the box and giving up the pass on those plays, isn't that the same as a run?

This is why there is more to the game than the stat line.

Mizzou gave up 43 points and 500 yards to an FCS team.

You can make all the excuses you want on why USC's offense is questionable, but all I heard all week was that they would put up 100 points on Mizzou and their offense barely managed 20.

Time of possession
SC 37:36
Mizzou 22:24

How many possessions Central Missouri have the week before? Maybe SC's game plan was to limit the number of touches Mizzou high powered offense got.

Game planning is about match ups vs strengths and weaknesses. Do ya'll even watch football?

Also, when talking about Carolina's offensive yards, no one ever mentions that we have had 2 kick off returns in 2 games. That takes away a drive and yards from your offense. SC only had 3 offensive possessions in the first half against NCST. Also causing a lot of turnovers around midfield or better, ie the pick vs Mizzou where we got the ball on the 25 and scored on one play. Thats only a 25 yard drive. Stats dont always tell the whole story.

Mizzou runs a play every 10 seconds, Missouri State had the ball for the same amount of time as USC did, the difference was we turned the ball over 3 times and didn't score in the redzone.

Game plan all you want, USC can't run the ball this year.

I don't understand it. If you give up a lot of yards but not a lot of points, your defense is stepping up when you need it too.

Its easy to say it won't continue for someone who doesn't realize that we have gotten at least 2 turnovers in 10 of the 15 games that will muschamp has coached for us. Special teams and turnovers are an integral part of the program. They spend as much time on those things in practice as they did anything else. Did we put up 350 yards? Sure we also put up 31 points. Did you put up a lot of yards? Sure and you got one touchdown. Excellent redzone defense is just as responsible for our wins as turnovers and special teams.
