We can all admit that they are clearly one of the best 4 teams in the nation, right?

UGA lost when it mattered. You either win, or you lose. Excuses are for losers or entitled programs

So we can't all admit that UGA is one of the best 4 teams in the nation?

are you judging that from UGA beating the third string FSU team? because during the season UGA didn't beat anybody worth talking about. they let Bama beat them.

UGA didn't deserve a spot in the playoff.

Was UGA one of the top 4 teams? Absolutely. But this season, winning a conference was a requirement since all the conference champions had 1 or 0 losses.

UGA was unlucky to have one of their worse performances in the game that mattered most. That happens sometimes. It happened to UGA in the SECCG in 2021 too, but that year there weren't a bunch of 0-1 loss conference champs so it didn't matter.

This year it did.

I honestly think that on average for the season, UGA is the best team this year. But that's not how it works in college football. It's more important to "time" your bad games well than it is to be the best overall.

If they were one of the four best teams, they'd have proven it by beating Alabama. This team has no excuses and no one to blame but themselves for watching the playoffs at home.

Even Georgia fans aren’t going to back you on this one.

Explicitly, the playoffs are supposed to be the best 4 teams.

All I am saying is this: watching Washington vs Texas, it was clear to me that neither of those teams was one of the 4 best teams in the nation. The talent level is just so different. Defensively, Washington just isn't very good, even though they probably have the best QB in the nation. I think they are going to be soundly beaten by Michigan - a team with a suspect offense.

Based on results on the field or based on 247 recruiting rankings?

The CFP Committee has been around for 10 years now. Plenty of time to observe trends and themes.

I was 99.-whatever percent sure that Georgia wasnt making the playoffs after they lost.

Anybody with any half assed understanding of how the Committee has always worked knew that Michigan and Washington were in, so there's 2 teams ahead of Georgia from the start.

When in doubt the CFP committee always goes with the conference champion, so that put Alabama ahead of Georgia.

Texas and Georgia had the same record but Texas was the conference champion and also beat the team that just beat Georgia, so that one was obvious too.

Florida State is the only one with a real gripe. The whole point of a 4 team playoff was supposed to be so an undefeated Power 5 team never gets left out, which happened to Auburn in 2004 and then another team a few years later.

Supposedly injured quarterbacks have always been part of the CFP Committee's formula and supposedly the committee was watching Ohio State really closely after they lost their first and second string quarterbacks in 2015. But then Cardale Jones stepped up in the Big 10 championship game and they scored 60 something points.

That's neat and everything, but Florida State still got screwed, based on precedent and trends.

UGA beat two teams that will finish in the top 10 of the final rankings this past regular season (Mizzou and Ole Miss) and a third that you've already discounted (FSU). Those wins were by 9, 35 and 60 points.

I guess top 10 teams aren't worth talking about? I suppose that means that LSU lost to several teams not worth talking about (Ole Miss and FSU).

So beating Mizzou, Ole Miss who beat LSU are not good wins?

Yes, but that actually means the 4 teams that have shown themselves to be best based on their performance. Otherwise UGA and Bama's talent would always make them one of the top 4 teams regardless of their record. Performance on the field matters.

UGA laid an egg in the game that mattered the most for "proving" they were one of the 4 best.

While that doesn't change that they likely are one of the 4 best, they didn't prove it.

I think UGA would be favored over both Michigan and Washington. Heck, they'd probably be favored over Bama in a rematch too (we were in 2021 after losing the SECCG by much more than 3 points). On paper UGA has the best team this season.

But the results on the field matter. UGA didn't deserve a spot.

when LSU lost to them, it was the first game of the season. FS all of their starting players. LSU had enough offense to beat Ole Miss, their defense lost that game.

they are good wins, but the rest of the schedule was soft. and then you lost to Bama. that is the reason Georgia wasn't in the playoffs

This is called "excuses".

UGA will end up with 3 top 10 wins this year. While that likely won't be the very top number of top 10 wins, it will be in the top 3-4 in terms of the number of top 10 wins for any team in college football.

The only top 10 team with more than the 2 regular season games against top 10 opponents that UGA had... is possibly Bama (if LSU manages to finish as a top 10 team... it's unclear if that will happen or not).
