If only A&M could be just another generic school with no real traditions or uniqueness. That would be so awesome.

A&M has always been different and unique. No other school has a history like we do in terms or our military connection (more Aggies served in WWII than all of the Academies combined and we were all male and all Corps until essentially the '60s, though the Corps was not compulsory starting in the 50s). We embrace our traditions like no one else, at A&M if something happens twice it becomes a tradition and that includes a lot of dumb and goofy crap.

Still the school is without question a powerhouse. $20 Billion Endowment. $1.1 Billion in annual Research budget. Pushing 80k students and virtually none are commuters. Has one of the highest annual salaries for alumni and companies recruit there that rival only the most elite schools. Ferociously loyal alumni that give generously. We spend insane amounts on athletics and facilities though we have underperformed for our investment. One of the most conservative public schools in the country with an incredibly robust number of student organizations in everything you can dream up.

A&M has no desire to be Michigan State or NC State and that is what a lot of folks would prefer. Nothing wrong with those schools but they are clearly in the shadow of the Flagship school and can't compete with them in any real way and they have little if any personality or uniqueness. frick that.

They embrace their strangeness and wear it as a badge of honor. They were rejects in high school, but found a college full of other high school rejects that became their extended family. For that reason they'll never change.

Why did you join this site in Nov 2012? That seems like something a reject would do.

The problem is you're a generic state school with some awful traditions and off-putting uniqueness.

And as an aside, A&M isn't even in the same galaxy as Michigan State or NC State in terms of location/beautiful campus.

Your comparisons need to be Texas Tech or Oklahoma State.

It is too late to “change their image”. If you sucked 1 cock 10 years ago and then had sex 100 women, you are still g@y.

I don't live in College Station so I don't really give a shite. If you're picking a school for the scenery, you've already lost at life.

As a university, there is no comparison to those schools. What a joke.

UT has over 50,000 students. Just like not everyone in Georgia is liberal just because as a state they helped put Brandon in the White House, there are equal libs vs. conservative students.

Austin as a city is a liberal $hithole in the center with normal people in the belt surrounding the center. Again not unlike other major cities in the South.

Very true...although that's a distant memory at this point. The Austin that existed when I went to Texas is long gone. Replaced by traffic, people, and corporations. It's depressing to go there now.
As for the Ags...they are ok. I have a few grads that are friends and a cousin who went there. It can seem cultish from the outside looking in but they are good people for the most part.

Perfect example of something easy to post on the internet but that I promise no one up here would say to my face.

Liar…UT really has zero military connection. They didn’t even have a ROTC program until AFTER WWII. While almost every other school did and provided officers. A&M has provided and continues to provide large numbers of serving officers. Check out the Commandant of the US Marine Corp for one example. Texas has always been draft dodging liberals.

Another typical aggy idiot.

If you live in Texas and want to be a Fortune 500 CEO or pass the Texas Bar exam on your first try what school should you go to?

Texas A&M. We are what the CEO and Bar exam scoreboard says we are.
