Can anyone explain to me like I'm a kindergartener what goes into ESPN's FPI

FPI has LSU ranked as the 7th best team in the country at the moment 
Just trying to figure out if this is something worth giving a frick about or ignoring it like I have since they started putting it out.

I don’t think FPI has had Kentucky ranked, even in some of our 10 win seasons. Go figure.
