quote:Other than "Georgia too high" on any Net thread or "Fire Tom Crean" I try not to mention the shitshow that is UGA BBall.
If you had their shite team would you mention it?
This is such a horrible time of year for me sports wise. UGA basketball is a dumpster fire and usually right now I would be looking forward to pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training in about 3 weeks, but with the MLB lockout, I don't even have that.
So I get to see a program that was absolute dogshit in basketball until a few years ago take a transfer from UGA and add that to their team which is half Georgia kids to the #1 ranking in basketball and lament about how what could be in Georgia hoops.

Agree, it's tough having the target on our schools backs, but the alternative is being a perennial bottom dweller. Much better in the rarified air we breathe with our programs.

Alabama is the defending SEC basketball champions. We know all about the bullseyes. Try being a Natty champ in football and an sec champ in basketball during the same year then get back to me.

I think Cal is lashing out because he knows his program is currently not up to historical Kentucky standards.
Based on what I can tell, only 8 times in Kentucky history has another program played even or better with Kentucky over a period of 7 seasons or longer.... 25% of those occurrences are current and possibly ongoing.
All-Time Best 7+ Season Performances Against Kentucky in SEC History by Winning Percentage during the period:
.609- Tennessee (14-9), 1975-1985... 11 seasons
.600- Florida (9-6), 2005-2011... 7 seasons
.545- Auburn (6-5), 2016-NOW... 7 seasons
.533- Tennessee (8-7), 2016-NOW... 7 seasons
.533- Vanderbilt (8-7), 2006-2012... 7 seasons
.500- LSU (8-8), 1978-1984... 7 seasons
.500- Arkansas (4-4), 2008-2014... 7 seasons
.500- Georgia Tech (7-7), 1958-1964... 7 seasons
**Alabama had a very long period throughout the 1970s and 1980s in which they had very good success against Kentucky, but there was never a 7+ year period in which they led the series or were even.... they were usually 1-2 games back from .500 at any given time.
**LSU's period of success against Kentucky mentioned above (1978-1984) continued through the early 1990s to some extent, but it dropped the overall record to just slightly below .500 to carry it out that far
Bottom line is that while Cal has had relatively good success, since about 2016 Kentucky has not been as dominant as they probably should have been considering their talent level and access to talent.
I think the sounds you hear out of Cal's mouth are his whining to try to justify why another program (or 2) are arguably on par with his program over a fairly prolonged period of time.

This has been his mo for years … complains about not being seeded higher and basically complains his teams are going to beat the easier teams on their side and ruin someone else bracket because the ncaa didn’t seed them right …. Then the real Kentucky comes out and loses in first or second round to a team 5-10 spots below them and they go quietly into the night …. Repeat every year

I’m not sure a 0-time Natty champion (Oklahoma) should ever comment on an 8-time Natty champion (KY)

quote:Did... you not read the rest of the post? I know that Texas has a lot of work to do, I said that It doesn't change the fact that Texas remains one of the biggest games of the year to their opponents more often than not. That will probably change in the SEC where there are a lot more "blueblood" football schools.
I see a huge difference in this. Kentucky has actually dominated the SEC and won national championships. Texas is a mid level B12 team that has a lot of work to do to compete in the SEC

quote:I'm not saying it's a good excuse. It's not. If anything, it's a hell of a recruiting pitch that they have. "Come here, and every game will feel like showtime. Whether it's home or away."
Even if it's true, it's not an excuse. Yes. The big name gets played tougher. They get players who go there for the name too. And disproportionate tv and media coverage. And higher expectations. It was all true when you won the title. fricking welcome to earth. You chose to be there. How is that an excuse
It's up to the program as to whether they want to be up for the challenge or not. Oklahoma, Alabama and Ohio State have been in football. USC and Texas have not. Duke, Kentucky (for the most part) and Kansas all have been in basketball. UNC (lately) and Indiana have not.

Maybe in the B12, but in the SEC you will just be another game
