BJ was hired at UT because he had won a bunch of games against nobodies at Cincinnati and Central Michigan. In both of those jobs he took over after Brian Kelly had built each of those teams into winners.
Unless Notre Dame hires BJ to be HC after Brian Kelly leaves, it’s unlikely BJ will be successful at his next HC gig.
