Ole Miss looked a little sloppy last night. I wasn’t very pleased with the effort on defense in the second half, and lord help us if Corral goes down. We have some great prospects at backup QB, but they’re very raw. Gotta tighten up on the penalties, we had 130 yards worth (some were very questionable, but still).

Meanwhile, Corral had 316 APY and 5 TDs. We ran for 350 yards and scored 54 points. We’ve outscored opponents 63-7 in the first half this season. Lot to be happy about, but Tulane comes to town this week, and they just dropped 69 points (nice) yesterday. Could turn into a shootout if we don’t play physical on defense.

Honest Assessment?

Offense: D

Defense: A+

Special Teams: B- until we get someone other than Ainias Smith fielding punts. (He seems to have no concept of running upfield after the catch)

Backup QB was not ready and looked a little lost with the play clock issues. So much improvement needed there. But glad he gutted it out and finally made a great play to take the lead.

O line has to improve.

Defense held down the fort and shut them down in the second half. Dominant D.

UGLY win

Wow A&M and LSU.

I think all has been stated. I'll simply add A&M should focus on Spiller and running down hill and making QB reads easier. The OL play even in crowded box should do more. You can't expect a new QB backup to throw 40 times with no run setting up down distance.

LSU - I'm just miffed. I tend to always feel the athletes are simply going to show up with the Tigers even middle last year and now. I didn't get to see the whole game but I feel the D will gel. Offense I feel I've nothing intelligent to add. I'm lost.

Uf played two community college level fbs teams. Still not sure what to think of this team.

They are physical on offense. Seem soft on defense. Head coach is nuts.

Oline is improved, but not enough to compete at the top. Depth is definitely an issue there.

Still concerned about Nix melting under a pass rush. He makes poor decisions the second protection breaks down and doesn’t check down quickly.

Running backs are the most solid I’ve seen in years. Was concerned we were in deep depth problems in the backfield if Tank went down, but Hunter is very promising and the walk-n is playing at a much higher level than I expected. Worm is a nice threat situationally.

Receivers drop too many passes. The transfer from UGA has played well, but I’m already seeing Bo key on him every play which will hurt the pass game and eventually become a turnover problem

Tight end is an offensive option again, which is nice.

Defense, line play is solid if not elite. Pass rush is improving. Linebackers look good, McClain is top talent. The secondary isn’t as strong as I’d hoped at this point.

Special teams is very good.

This might very well be. If Alabama plays anything like they did yesterday, Florida could certainly win.

The team has a lot of fire in their belly. We play hard all game... perhaps not always smart, but hard. With our improved O Line we can unleash the small horde of RBs we have on folks. Next year we add more pieces to the line puzzle with two incoming elite TEs. Arkansas might become the team you dread playing because even if you win you are going to be feeling like you got run over.

On the negative side our OC still gets a bit cutesy in the red zone and we left a ton of points on the field. Against Texas we didn't need them, against Ole Miss or Moo State we most certainly will. KJ Jefferson is still developing as a QB. He tends to fixates on a WR and often doesn't go through his reads, sometimes missing a wide open WR. That is part of the normal learning curve of a QB so I'm not that worried yet.

Our defense is good but not tremendously deep. We may wear down as the season goes on. I am concerned about our ability to defend the deep ball. Texas missed some wide open deep passes.

Overall I'm very happy with where we are at the moment. Pittman was handed one of the worst rebuilds in recent history and his first year was an all SEC schedule to boot. Yet we are making excellent progress. Its not that the overall talent level is better, though it is, its that this staff actually tries to address problem areas rather than letting them linger.

the typical Mark Stoops take over of the offense and letting the air out of the ball, which guarantees that Kentucky can't put a game away. Your never out of it against the Cayts as long as the ginger has a headset.

If Chris Rodriguez doesn’t fumble twice, he has 5 TDs yesterday. And he ran for a career high of 206 yards. And we had 519 total yards of offense.

Gonna go out in a limb and say it was working.

Agreed. Should have done dink and dunk stuff to get the ball to playmaker in space.

Gutsy performance by defense.

Do you think Mullen will stick with Jones, or make a move to Richardson. He has been almost brutally loyal to his QBs. I have not watched Florida, so I don't know how Richardson has done...except that he apparently has been running very well.

LSU is terrible. Worst team in the west. Would be a miracle to get to 4-4 in league play.

We played just well enough to win. We are worse on both offensive and defensive lines than I thought, and our secondary and defense overall isn't as good as I expected.

Our running game is strong, and our passing game is good.

Sometimes Young thinks he can hit a dollar bill at 50 yards in triple coverage - when he has 20 yards of open running room in front of him

So THAT'S why, at one point in the fourth quarter, Mizzou had run three times as many offensive plays as Kentucky after halftime ? That unstoppable running attack that - after the interception and quick drive to go up 28-14 - couldn't move the ball for about 20 minutes of game clock. You know - that point in the game where Mizzou was converting third and fifteens with screen passes because the defense was so damn gassed.

There is a difference between yards per carry, and effective plays. Kentucky's offense was not effective at all after they went up two scores after halftime, 28-14, until they finally kicked it in gear after getting tied at 28 all.

For a long stretch, Mizzou sold out to the run on every first down, and Kentucky obliged them. Right about that time where it looked like Kentucky would piss the game away.
