Nah. Arky football will be terriable over the next few years. Not flaming. We tried to change schemes with 4-5* players last year, and was a train wreck.

Shhh.

Auburn is back since they hired a coach with years of HC experience.

Tennessee is back because they hired Chip Kelley's shadow.

None of those teams have had one or two bad years in the past 4....

That is just part of being an Auburn fan.

Gus will get you back to 7-8 wins a year, eventually.

I personally love how Gus Malzahn, with unshed tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat, sorrowfully accepted the head coaching job at Auburn about 5 minutes after Arkansas announced Bret as our new head coach.

Auburn can't even be a first choice destination for sun belt coaches anymore

True but he's changing things up philosophy wise and I think that's what Gerry meant.

Its no different than when Petrino came in and changed philosophies to one that included the forward pass.

Petrino lucked out with what was needed for the transition being in state for his first recruiting class, I believe Bert got off to a good start with his first class this year...

It was a catastrophic year. Bad doesn't quite cut it.

Looking at the schedule this year, a losing record is a distinct possibility. Losing Wilson, Johnson, Davis and Hamilton is really going to hurt offensively and you're changing schemes completely. While there's some returning starters on the other side of the ball, the defense last year wasn't good at all.

I don't think it's categorically incorrect to call it a "rebuild".

I think he got off to a good start, I just think it'll take a little more time than it took Petrino. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

When your 4-5* players lay down and give up two years in a row it doesn't make one bit of difference what scheme you run does it?

Gus is harping on giving the AU players "their edge back", I imagine Bert is doing the same thing.

The transition from Nutt's system to Petrino's system was a lot more drastic than the change from Petrino's to what Bielema and Chaney will roll out.

I get what you're saying but it's different for us. Petrino ran. Power based spread and Bielema wants to run I formation a lot. Not exactly as drastic as going from a HUNH to whatever it is y'all ran last year. And Bielema has said on many occasions he's gonna fit the scheme to the personnel he has right now. That's something Gene was too stupid to do.

Are we gonna be good this year? No probably not. But it's more because of how young our offensive players are than how drastic of a change Bielema's gonna make. It's not all that different. Just less reliant on QBs. We might actually be more fit to run Bielema's scheme than Petrino's with the guys we have right now.

Is that why he was in talks with Ellis Johnson the week before he took the AU job and was already building his staff...cause he knew he wasn't going to Arkansas?

Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong...I'm just not going to expect it. I DO expect a pretty big move in improvement year 2 though.

Ellis was available, and I'm sure he was looking towards to dominating the Sun-Belt after Long refused to grant him an interview and before Auburn lowered their expectations.

I'm talking more on D. The O he runs will depend heavily on a strong D to keep the in the game.
