I don't think LSU is getting booted.
But here's what would happen in this unlikely scenario:
LSU would go independent for next season while courting another conference.
The SEC would add another team.
That's it.
If it ever got to that point (it won't) too many bridges would be burned to try to reconcile.

The legal Armageddon is the hundreds of court cases the SEC will face from dozens of other entities besides LSU.

I think too many bridges have already been burned. If indeed 15 other members want to kick LSU out of the SEC, there is no reason to fight to stay. Instead, LSU should be searching for a new "family" and at the same time, preparing to fight in court as you know lawsuits will be going back and forth for maybe decades. The ramifications are "nuclear" as the OP says. This is so dumb, as having this occur because of 2 players that are not rostered is beyond unnecessary. Either its egos dictating this conference or there is more to this behind the scenes. If there is more, why hasn't it been included in the amended court filings? This all does not make sense, but the longer it goes, the harder it'll be to come back. Things might have already gone too far and its a damn shame.

They’re just going down. Congress hasn’t acted, b/c they can’t accomplish what would be best for conferences, schools, and fans.
It’s Minor League Football, every team for itself. Just using school facilities. Think about the semantics of calling a kid pro and he can’t play that is 4 years removed from high school, while you pay a kid 6 years out $5M, and that’s OK
If you ask me, when it’s all said and done, the NCAA is going to look like the adult with the SEC kicking and screaming like the kid in the back seat

From where? It's one thing to hit up rich alumni and boosters for that All-American LT or WR portal target so he can brag to all his buddies in his private suite, "Hey, you see that player? I bought him". Ain't no rich guy bragging on the 14th tee, "Yeah, I just funded a motion for change of venue in state court yesterday." Do you just think there's an inexhaustible well of cash?

Their lawyers are paid by the hour too. They get paid win or lose. Lawyers are the only ones winning in college athletics at the moment

Nothing is inexhaustible.
But yes, LSU will have significant resources at its disposal to maximize its future opportunities, whatever they may be.
LSU may go somewhere else, but they aren’t going away.
