I enjoy historic articles like that. Anything to do with national championship history is fascinating. I’m a 1936-present person but that’s just my preference. I’m also a big fan of trophies and it’s hard to find good images of old national championship trophies. If you have any access to ones in which Alabama received prior to the poll era, that would be swell.
Also, no one can dispute Alabama’s 13 poll era titles. The hardware is there. It’s not Alabama’s fault the systems were what they were throughout the years. If Alabama received AP, UPI, or both, then it’s end of discussion.

It isn't for us to knock it down. If it were up to us, it already would have happened. It's up to you to unclaim 1941 because you're the ones who claimed it. I think it was your SI who wanted a dozen titles on your centennial or something like that, so he ordained the 1941 SEC third place team that got shut out by both Vandy and Miss State as National Champions. The bowl games didn't count for titles back then.

The AP was a regional poll before WWII and the only people who could vote were subscribers to their service. AP became national because of WWII when most if not all the nation subscribed.

I really think Alabama claims the 1941 is because the 1946 team (who should have won it) came in second to Army. I do not know. Regardless it is a funny NC claim because so many people get "up in the air" about it.

2011 is a tweener. It’s a game they shouldn’t have been in much like many other championships, but they did win the game.
Either way, their dominance is over. They’ll live off the Bama name for a couple seasons.

1925 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with Dartmouth. Who awarded the NC? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. So Bama won their 1925 NC using a formula that didn’t exist until 1927? Helms Athletic Foundation started in 1941. Another incredible retroactive NC.
1926 National Championship- Alabama claims they share this one with 3 other teams with equal or better records! Once again it is the Helms Athletic Foundation in 1941 that awards it!
1930 National Championship- The Davis poll says that Bama tied Notre Dame for NC this year. This was the only one to award it to Bama. Notre Dame was named NC in 6 polls! Parke Davis is another retroactive system! He (an individual, not an organization) did his in 1933!
1934 National Championship- Alabama says they share this with two other teams. The awarders are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was an individual who came up with his own system. Williamson was a geologist who came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus first appeared in 1946!
1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!
