These are the kind of processes that don’t translate to the modern game. No different than the old notion that you would lose one game for every freshman you started.

These requirements are the same ones that led him to "hand pick" John Beck for Miami.

There's some valid traits to look for, but this is far too narrow...

You do realize that Coach "I wanna buy my own Groceries" passed on Matt Ryan essentially setting the Dolphins Franchise back at least a dozen years maybe more

The reason he passed on Ryan:

He thought he was too skinny & frail, he prefers bigger QBs like Phil Simms (durable for his Era) , he didn't think Ryan could withstand the hits in the NFL

Basically, he ignored his own guide
