Fran was a decent coach, but a horrible recruiter. He got out at the right time as he knew his house of cards was about to crumble. He'd have done no better, and possibly worse, than Shula did had he stayed(ignoring of course the Price boondoggle)

or even coached them on the practice field.
He didn't? I thought I read something from Shaud Williams talking about how much fun they were having with Price in practice and how upset he was that Price got fired.

Is Curry still the only Bama head coach to have a brick tossed through his window?
Yeah and he messed his rotator cuff up doing it.

Yeah, Shaud and Brodie were at the press conference when Price's firing was announced. They were both crying & begging for them to keep Price. The players and students all loved Price. He was a nice guy, but didn't understand he couldn't be at the bars every night buying drinks for all the students.

I'd rather take up knitting or some crap than watch that atrocity again

All I want to know is did Bama ever give Schellenberger a look?

For some reason I thought I heard they did back when bear retired but Schell knew he had a great team coming back at Miami in 83 so he declined.

Well yeah, that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, but he'd been warned a few times about his behavior in public.

If Fran had stayed for the 3rd and 4th year he probably would've won a SEC championship.
The only game plan that Fran ever succeeded at was running Tomlinson up the middle.
Bama owes A&M 2 coaches. (For giving them Bear, and for taking Fran before he ruined your program.)

It just goes to show you that even mediocre coaches can win at Alabama.

1. Dennis Franchione
2. Ray Perkins
3. Bill Curry
4. Mike Shula
Ray Perkins may have brought Alabama its first losing season in 26 or 27 years but he was a damned good coach. The '85 and '86 seasons were both solid years.
Anyone who ranks Shula above Perkins is a moron. They were both at Alabama for four seasons. Perkins went 32-15-1 while Shula went 26-23. It's not hard to see who the better coach was.

at you for thinking A&M and Bama are on the same level.
But t&p for you for having to put up with worse coaches the Frantastic.
Maybe you can get him back after he is fired from Texas State.

1--Curry (Just bad timing for him at Bama)
2--Shula ? (Simply because under situation we'll
never know if he would have grown
into the job.)
3--Perkins (Better than the bottom feeder in
this ranking)
4--Franchione (Cold as a dead seal, face stuck
in playbook, poor recruiter and
thank God for A&M in taking what
would have been Bama's hit with
him.)

His lack of discipline alone was not going to allow him to sustain a program.
