That Cam phone call is basically irrelevant now.

understand me when i say this, because i don't mean offense.. but you're a fool or you're an idiot if you don't think these kids don't receive benefits that are FAR beyond a "little here" or a "little there."

they're well funneled, well thought out, and regularly executed across this country sir. if you want to remain in a bubble and believe that this is a <insert whatever high percentage that sounds good to you> clean sport, that's fine by me.

it doesn't excuse it. it doesn't mean it's NOT cheating. but human nature dictates that we'll do things like this if we can get away with it, especially if it brings millions of dollars of revenue AND glory to our careers or school flames... but it mostly boils down to money.

as the adage says, "everybody goes a little faster than the speed limit... not everybody goes Auburn's speed over the speed limit....:" or something like that.

Just FYI:

There are some rumors tonight that Auburn will start being a little more proactive about this situation tomorrow. Whether that means they issue another statement denying everything or they actually bring to light some new info, I don't know. If the rumors are true, tomorrow should be an interesting day.

Texas fans claim LSU paid Ryan Perriloux in poker chips that he could easily cash at any casino in Louisiana. Of course, they were assuming Les Miles is some sort of criminal mastermind.

My question is, why would Newton feel comfortable telling this to a MSU recruiter unless MSU was at least playing along in the bidding war? Surely he can't be this dumb? It at least seems to me the only way he would feel comfortable saying that to a MSU recruiter is if they also offered money and simply got outbid because he wouldn't think that they would say anything if they had a hand in it as well at risk of self-implication. Logical?

Exactly what I said this afternoon...

I'm an AU fan, and I'll admit it doesn't look good. But I think the NCAA or whoever else is going to need somebody else OUTSIDE of Miss. St. to confirm these solicitation allegations.

Like maybe a secret witness?

The sad fact is that money and extra benefits happen at every program that has a passionate fanbase.
As a Bama fan, I can attest that Derrick Thomas and Fernando Bryant both were driving high dollar European luxury cars their last year in Tuscaloosa. Those payments were made by somebody, and I'm guessing it wasn't them. We've all heard of players eating/drinking for free at restaurants, or getting the old hundred dollar handshake.
At the high school level, overzealous fans have arranged for housing, jobs for the parents, etc for top players to move to an area so they'll be zoned for their school.
In the pee wee ranks, parents hold their kids back a year so they'll be the biggest kids on the field, and therefore more likely to dominate.

Its all a misguided attempt for people with too much money/not enough self-esteem to get some validation from the success of their teams.

I'd have to disagree. Up to this point, this is the only thing that implies that Cam knew he was being sold to the highest bidder or that he knew anything about the $$. I know that he could be ruled ineligible at AU due to his dad's actions even if he had no knowledge of it, but it still seems to be important if you take his integrity into account if nothing else.

"Being proactive" can also mean they sit the kid.

No. Every person in this forum is under 2 years old.

Well, I used the "crying indian" from the old anti-littering commercials earlier today. I never know what obscure reference I'll pull out, or what people are going to remember...

Bell said he turned them over to the SEC last week.

and yet Cam is still cleared to play

That's the SEC's fault.

The NCAA is a different animal.

The thing that amazes me is that numerous other schools with players in similar situations sat them based on their potential ineligibility. You'd think that if this is being investigated by the NCAA at all, Newton's eligibility is in jeopardy and question, yet Auburn seems to be the ONLY school refusing to be proactive and sit him.

Hell, UNC sat 15 or so players for a good number of games while the investigations into those PLAYERS not the university were ongoing.

In the end, I think Auburn's arrogance is going to be their downfall, and sanctions will be pretty stiff once this is all sorted out.

It's not arrogance. . .it's desperation.

Without Cam, AU is a mediocre team. . .and that is being very nice.
