The overpaying part is simply the idea of paying a ridiculous amount over the coaches current value.

Bama did it with Saban. Vandy was trying to do it with Malzahn.

Les' salary is already overpaid, but they have to match it. He's not going to leave for the same basic salary. It was going to have to be a significant raise.

Instead, LSU got stupid again, and let Les and his agent rape them if what BelowPar said was true. $26.25M basically guaranteed is utterly stupid.

Nothing in there whatsoever shows he deserves to be promoted to LSU's OC.

The dude was with Meyer for how many years and still got passed over for the OC position by Adazzio.

It's stupid to guarantee that much to a coach that hasn't won his division in 3 years. I'd be fine with Miles getting a 5 year contract at his current salary with it guaranteed, thus his original $18.75M buyout. That is actually still utterly ridiculous, but Skip Bertman fricked us over and we're going to pay for it.

Tangerine, I think he was offered, but not as much as some believe. He simply kept the better job and rumor is that he got $18.75 guaranteed and if he actually makes it through the next 2 seasons it's about $26.25 guaranteed not including bonuses.
