Alabama was turned down by both Steve Spurrier and Rich Rodriguez before they fell into hiring an NFL guy who saw the writing on the wall.

What would they have given him that LSU wouldn't?
I dunno, seem to remember the college football and coaching world in general having a collective “What the frick”??? when Alabama started him at 4M a year... would LSU have matched that?
I think the life time supply of deep woods off to keep the mosquitoes away is prolly what would have done the trick though.

Who can tell if they would've but there's really no doubt that LSU could've paid him that if they wanted to.
Hell, they were paying Miles between $3.2 and $3.5mil at the end of the following season.

Nick Saban was always the #1 target with Spurrier the obvious second choice. Moore talked to Spurrier first because the two men were well-acquainted and thus it was easy to offer him the job. Rich Rodriguez was only offered the job because Jimmy Sexton's plane was delayed. Sexton had promised to call Moore concerning the status of Saban at a certain time. When that time came and went, Moore interpreted it as a "no" and thus immediately offered Rodriguez the job. Literally two minutes after he got off the phone with Rodriguez's people, Sexton called to tell Moore about his delayed flight.
When Rodriguez turned us down the next day, there wasn't a more relieved person in the state of Alabama than Mal Moore. While all of us were melting down that evening, Moore was doing the moonwalk at his office.

I agree, thats all factual.
However, my statement stands.
Saban isn't the coach at Alabama if Spurrier or Rodriguez take the job.

And you think somehow hiring a twice fired/passed over coach is on the same level. Ok.

Who fired him twice?

You put these things together as if they're similar in nature so its quite confusing.

What "IF" Petrino stayed off that damn motorcycle?

Is it? When you're acting head coach and they hire someone else for the job, it's the same as being fired. Enjoy your semantics I guess.
At the end of the day, it's obvious we have more to offer. Enjoy being a pretty good 2nd tier team and be happy there.

People like you cry about "semantics" when you make a shitty comparison and someone calls you out on it.

Like what exactly? Lets have an honest discuss about what tangible asset Alabama can offer that LSU or another high end football program can't.
If you can.

I told you 2 times already. Money. You are poor. How much plainer can I make it?
Posted on 2/27/21 at 10:46 pm to SidewalkTiger
I would argue LSU has a advantage over Bama with facilities regarding football.

You do understand that this has nothing to do with coaching salaries right?
