The people who root for schools like Tulane and Vandy aren't gonna spend all day trying to dominate the SEC Rant, and they probably won't be sporting a team hat when they are out and about.
I've met a few Vandy fans in L.A., actually

Florida may have a bigger state and population but they divide loyalties to Florida State and Miami.
Same goes for the state of Alabama with it being divided between 'Bama and Auburn.
The good thing about Louisiana is because there is no legit rival the state is 99% LSU fans...creating the overwhelming LSU obsession

If we are going by size, it is UF far and away. By far the largest student body in the largest state in the SEC. UF has one of the largest alumni organizations in the country.
Difficult to measure intensity of a fanbase. Considering UF has consecutive seasons of a soldout stadium dating back to 1979, the longest streak in the SEC, UF measures pretty highly on the intensity level.

I would say a high percentage of the people in this state are LSU fans...but 99% really? come on now...that is a bit high

I guess it depends on what you call a fan.
If a fan = someone with a hat and tshirt, then UF or UGA will have the most due to large enrollments in large states.
But if a fan = someone who will actually drive to games and who can name starters, then it's Bama, UT, LSU.

UF has just as many diehards as other schools. We just deal with a larger contingent of bandwagoners because of how large our state is. UF travels very well.

I agree.
Tennessee and Alabama have maybe not the biggest numbers, but they have the biggest "die hard" following.

No it isn't, it's an observation. LSU has some great fans, I've been to Tiger Stadium before and had a great time, etc. But some of these posts, like the "99.9%" comment make it sound like everyone in the state is a flag carrying LSU fan. That just hasn't been close to my experience. Seems like alot of people are fans of the Saints and could care less about college football, and the majority (not all) of those I've met claiming to be LSU fans couldn't name 5 starters on your defense.

And your fan base CAN?? come on. How many die hard wives, kids, and old people come out and support the team and have no idea what's going on. You don't have to name the entire starting line up to be a fan

You realize even in Louisville, Kentucky fans double the Card base...right?
Even though UK has enrollment of 32000...the whole damn state is loyal to big blue...if indication, see how we travel for Bowl games and show up for glorified basketball practice in Rupp at midnight.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and knew a bunch of guys who weren't LSU fans. They were natives, too.
