Biggest factor if JFF decides to go pro after next year?

1. Russell Wilson. The biggest knock on JFF is his size. With Russell Wilson being smaller and shining this year, pro teams will be much more likely to disregard this issue (if the NFL had a draft do-over for last year's draft, Russell Wilson would be a top 5 pick).

2. Heisman. He has already won it.

3. Cautionary tales. Numerous QB's coming back only to see their draft stock plummet (most recently Barkley, but see also Snead, etc.)

4. His GF. She's knocking on the door of 30.

5. NFL team doctors. They have to have access to better treatments for forehead acne.

6. Other/supply your own.

They broke up according to a tweet she made for the new years. Apparently he cheated, a lot.

Edit: I think a big factor is if we win a NC. If we don't he might be motivated to come back the next year to make another run for it.

Biggest factor:

1. Draft projections.

The only reason a play declares for the draft early is because his draft projections show that he will be a top pick in the draft and make a substantial amount of money. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

More evidence of what was suspected from the start about his character.

Yeah, I was worried about him until she tweeted that. Looks like he's gonna do well.

huh? I thought he was a freshman? Freshman can't declare. Even red-shirt freshman have to wait a year.

Granted, you don't just grow Johnny Manziel's on trees, but if he leaves next year, we still would have:

Matt Davis (RS-SO)
Kenny Hill (RS-FR)
*Kohl Stewart (RS-FR if he doesn't go MLB)

the following season.

Biggest reason Manziel would go pro after 2013 season is due to loss of OL. It will be hard to replace 2 first round OTs.

He will be a red-shirt SO and will be 21 in Dec, which I am pretty sure makes him eligible for the 2014 draft.

Yep, but I don't think age is involved. You aren't draft eligible until your high school class would have completed their junior year of college. Since he's a RS, he can go after next season.

Subject says go pro after next year not this year. He will be draft eligible after next season. Sorry for any confusion.

He is an academic Junior as well and could have his degree or be very close to it after next year.

Truth is, nobody knows. He doesn't need the money and he likely won't be a Top 5 pick, though I don't see him dropping that far. If A&M wins the NC and he repeats the Heisman I'd think the odds are high he will leave as he wouldn't have anything really left to accomplish. OTOH maybe he wants to stick around and be the greatest college football player of all time which he has the potential to be.

Personally I am happy for him whatever he does. He has been absolutely incredible for A&M and our recruiting has been off the charts to soften the blow. You can't replace him and A&M would take a hit without question but I'm just going to enjoy him while we have him instead of worrying about when he leaves. He along with Sumlin have completely changed the image of A&M and shown the country that we truly were a "sleeping giant", can't begrudge him if he wants to go see if he can win in the NFL.

FWIW, the more fun he has the more I think he stays. I also think it is interesting how he always talks about how he sees football as "just a game" and though he is hyper competitive he isn't all about football. The college life is a lot easier than the NFL life and since he has money already it's also going to be hard to walk away from banging 3 co-ed's a night and being treated as a God on campus.

Didn't know this. Damn.. if the dude sticks around, he could have 2 degrees by the time he finishes.

I wish LSU could land a financially stable superstar. But, I'll take what we can get.

But, I digress. You mentioned that if A&M were to win a NC, then he wouldn't have anything left to accomplish. If his draft stock is still not as high as he would like, he may return anyway. Look at Tebow. Heisman and 2 national championships before his senior year and he returned. I know JFF is no Tebow, but crazier things have happened.

It really is crazy what one stud (especially freshman stud) can do for recruiting. A&M is on a crusade landing the top WR prospects in the nation, mostly due to Manziel.

It will be hard for him to experience a better time in his life than right now, even making $$$ in the pros. If I were him, I'd stay as long as I could.. but then again, I'm not JFF. I'm a miserable TD poster

He would jump to the top of the QB draft board. He has demonstrated he can make all the throws and next year does not look like a stellar QB class. Murray and who else?

Going to class AND doing all the practices, workouts, film study, etc is easier than just doing the game stuff? How about no?

It won't be hard to walk away from banging 3 co-eds a night when he'll walk into banging just as many cheerleader and playboy types a night.

The god on campus thing is legit, but the enormous paychecks (needed or not) will ease the pain somewhat.
