So Alabama is 2-32 vs ranked opponents over two specific 5 year stretches...

And 148-117-10 outside of those two stretches?

Not to mention 0-18 vs top 10 teams during that stretch, so 50-78-1 otherwise?

Curse you Ears and DuBose!

Gets a boost of top 5 and top 10 games from playing Alabama.

That's certainly part of it... However, when this season is over Georgia will have played exactly half of all of Alabama's 26 Final AP Top 5 teams (13 out of the 26).

That doesn't completely explain the gap between Georgia's number of Top 5 opponents played and the rest of the Big 6. Georgia has played 26 fewer Top 5 teams compared to Alabama... who obviously doesn't get to play themselves... and 27 fewer than Auburn; 33 fewer than LSU; 37 fewer than Tennessee; and 41 fewer than Florida.

Even if Georgia had played every single Final AP Top 5 ranked Bama squad we'd still be significantly behind the rest of the pack in terms of Total AP Top 5 opponents played.

We get a boost from playing FSU. They finished top 5 in both polls from 1987-2000. That's 16 right there for us (2 extra because of the 2 Sugar Bowl rematches).

Here's Georgia. You can probably blame Clemson and especially Georgia Tech for slipping as much as they did (obviously this isn't the case right now for Clemson).

It probably has a lot to do with this as well:

Total number of games played against Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech (1936-2017):

216- Georgia
198- Tennessee
140- Florida
124- Alabama
107- Auburn
98- LSU

The total, combined number of Final AP Top 5 finishes for Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Georgia Tech = 5

They combine for just 13 Top 10 finishes as well.
