Yea, gonna be tough to have a great record against a team that finished Ranked in the Top 5.

Basically means they have to win all the rest of their games, and even then they might not make the cut. Inherently your win against them is going to put them on the verge of not being in that category anymore.

It's actually very rare to have a winning record against teams that finished ranked in the Top 25. Someone did this for the Playoff Era only (2014-2017) and here were the records against final AP top 25:

Alabama — 18-5 (.783)
Georgia — 9-6 (.600)
Ole Miss — 8-11 (.421)
Auburn — 7-14 (.333)
LSU — 6-12 (.333)
Arkansas — 5-15 (.250)
Florida — 4-12 (.250)
Tennessee — 4-12 (.250)
South Carolina — 4-12 (.250)
Mississippi State — 3-12 (.200)
Texas A&M — 2-14 (.125)
Kentucky — 1-12 (.078)
Mizzou — 0-10 (.000)
Vanderbilt — 0-11 (.000)

Only 3 other teams in the country (tOSU, Clemson, OU) have winning records against final top 25 during the playoff era.

Alabama may be the only SEC with a winning record all time against final top 25 teams. Probably very few teams in the country but I've never seen the research for that.

Lou Holtz has a 6-9 record against teams that finished in the top 5. I don’t think any other coach has a winning percentage higher than 35% against top 5 teams except for maybe Saban.

Is that up to date or just to 2017? We got two this season (2018) but to be honest I'm not sure it would help us that much given that almost everyone we played this season is either ranked or will end up ranked.

Let me save the thread

Grouped by win pct and total wins

Rankings based on win pct

Rankings based on total wins

Biggest take away is this makes UGA clearly look like the weakest of the big 6. They are last in every category for total wins, and last in 2/3 for win pct

LSU and UF seem to be on a tier of their own after bama as well

I've admitted in the past, and I will admit again, that Georgia has played by far the easiest schedule of any of the Big 6 programs, historically speaking.

# of Games All-Time Against Top 5 Opponents
162- Florida
158- Tennessee
154- LSU
148- Auburn
147- Alabama
121- Georgia

# of Games All-Time Against Top 10 Opponents
89- Tennessee
85- Auburn
83- LSU
83- Florida
81- Alabama
62- Georgia

# of Games All-Time Against Top 25 Opponents
319- Florida
309- Alabama
304- LSU
297- Auburn
288- Tennessee
275- Georgia

I don't know the numbers, but if I remember correctly, Tommy Tuberville had a pretty amazing record against Top 5 or Top 10 teams.

Pretty sure most of those were "Top 5 at the time of the game".

It's just to 2017 because we don't have the final AP top 25 for 2018 yet. LSU almost assuredly will have 2 wins over final AP top 25 (MSU and UGA unless MSU falls out which isn't likely). Then they almost assuredly will have 3 losses against final AP top 25 (Bama, Florida, A&M unless A&M falls out which again isn't likely). So looks like LSU will be either 3-3 or 2-4 against final AP top 25 this year depending on how the UCF game goes.

2018 isn't included yet since the season isn't over and the AP and Coaches rankings will obviously change.

Maybe that was it.

I did go back and look and he had 3 wins against Final AP Top 3 teams: 2006 #1 Florida... 2003 #3 Florida... and 2006 #3 LSU

His overall win% against Top 5 and Top 10 teams was decent, but I would think he's one of the few coaches in history to have 3 wins against Final Top 3 teams... especially inside of a relatively short, six-year period.

Yea, dude won some big games for sure. It's just mathematically so hard to have a good win % against Top 3/5 teams because to be in the Top 3/5 you basically have to be undefeated or have 1 loss.......which means any Top 5 team you play is finishing undefeated (they have to have beat you) or with just 1 loss (and it has to be to you).

So Bama is 131-87-10 against teams ranked #6-25 all time. That's pretty solid.

Gets a boost of top 5 and top 10 games from playing Alabama.

121- Georgia
