There’s no “basically” needed.
Those two teams would be on habitual life support, otherwise.

True. Good point but if expansion is inevitable, who would the aggies approve Texas and TCU/Tech/Baylor or the Oklahoma schools??

I don't think you understand how conference expansion works. The SEC has enough blue bloods. You don't want to add teams unless you are increasing your TV footprint. A&M and Mizzou provide this, they were added because they add value. OU may be a blue blood but are that many more people going to watch them play? Are you willing to divide your share of SEC TV money with a team that doesn't add a TV footprint?

Oklahoma City and Tulsa certainly bring in TV markets that are equal to most in the SEC.

What if we traded OU for Mizzou?

We still have buyer's remorse over Mizzou.

Nah.
Houston, D/FW, Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, Tampa, San Antonio, Orlando, Austin, and Kansas City are all larger markets than OKC.
And Jacksonville, New Orleans, Louisville, Memphis, and Little Rock are all ranked higher (Nielsen markets) than Tulsa.

I’m not suggesting OK and Oke State are bad programs, but they bring little to the table that isn’t already there.

That league is a joke and it’s a matter of time before OU & Osu are SEC, Kansas & K State are Big10, Texas & Tcu are Pac12 and WVU & Baylor are ACC.

There is so much "LSU dumb" in this post....

There aren’t even 4 million peiple in the entire state of OK. No one wants to add a footprint in states like MS, KY, and AR anymore. This is why the SEC and ACC both passed on WVU, and why we added Missouri. Any further expansion in the SEC will be in NC and VA going forward. OU ain’t going anywhere any time soon without being attached at the hip to Texas.

Yep.

I still can’t believe that Tom Benson didn’t move the Saints there.

OU had a invite to the sec but wanted to be in a more prestigious academic conference like the Big 10. I remember half the fans saying go to the sec and others wanted the Big 10. I don’t think we was every offered membership or put in a request to move to the Big 10 becuase Texas and OU thought pac 12 might be a better fit. In the end it all worked out OU stayed put and even though the conference is smaller than the others it still packs a punch. Revenue has never been better we are averaging more than all schools when you count the tier three rights, believe they said OU gets 5-8 mil off of them and the distributions for the rest was at 37 mil per school. Football is getting better and it showed in bowl games over last few years. Basketball is the Big 12 has become one of the best and last year was a excellent year. Trust me if OU wanted to come A@M wouldn’t be standing in our way .... votes or not. Really it wouldn’t be fair to other conferences if OU and let’s say TEXAS or OSU came..... they would have to give the sec to automatic bids to the playoff, because if you finished in the top and won the conference you would be without a doubt the best team that year and the second place team would probably be a close second.

Oh, and let's address Lincoln Riley's dumbass comment.

At halftime, the game was Oklahoma 31, Georgia 17.

Here are the offensive stats in the 2nd half and overtime.

Rushing:

Oklahoma - 25 carries for 91 yards
Georgia - 21 carries for 131 yards and 4 TD

Passing:

Oklahoma - 10/17 for 86 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT
Georgia - 8/11 for 101 yards and 1 TD

Watching aggy lose is funny, and it takes the sting out of watching Texas lose.

Stats are fun.

Here's some from 2017:

ESPN says for the 16th consecutive year, Birmingham was the No. 1 local market for CFB games that aired on ESPN.
No. 2: Columbus
No. 3: Greenville
No. 4/5: Oklahoma City & Knoxville
No. 6/7/8: Tulsa, Nashville, Atlanta
No. 9: Jacksonville
No. 10: Dayton/NOLA

2:14 PM - Dec 5, 2017

I see Tulsa and OKC in the top 10.
Birmingham, of course, is number one.
Not a single city in Texas in the top 10.
Y'all too poor to afford cable?
