is he really pimping a dude that he didn't originally recruit?
BB would look a ton better had Maragos actually started at Wisconsin instead of transferring in once his talent was more readily apparent.
but since he didn't...

Sounds like Bret likes to make excuses for his terrible recruiting
terrible recruiting = having more former players playing in the Super Bowl than any other active coach

We used to point to stuff like this when Tubs could no longer recruit and we went downhill

I thought Alvarez was responsible for those recruits?

he could recruit them, but Alvarez had final say. just as all head coaches do.
kind of like chizik was the leader of recruiting efforts when malzahn was OC
Mike Sherman didn't want to recruit Johnny at first either. It took Tom Rossley hard selling him. That's what assistants who find talented kids on the recruiting trail do.
So what you are saying is that BB had such a weak voice that he couldn't convince Alverez of this kid's potential on defense even though he was eventually tapped to be the HC? B/c that's pretty much the best case scenario in this instance.

So you are saying Alvarez deserves all of the credit for any success Wisconsin had while Bert was HC?
I'd say a good portion of the success, but not all of it
Kind of like Chizik is responsible for a good portion of the success that happened at Auburn while Malzahn was OC

All four of the players featured in the graphic – Denver’s Montee Ball and Seattle’s Russell Wilson, O’Brien Schofield and Chris Maragos – all played for Bielema while he was the head coach at Wisconsin. It’s kind of funny to see those guys, all Badgers, with the Arkansas logo next to them promoting the Arkansas football program.
Bielema went 3-9 and 0-8 in the SEC in his first year with the Razorbacks, so the program needs all the positive exposure it can get.

Bert coached them
Alvarez may get partial credit

this pretty much sums up all of BB's tenure at Wisconsin and is something hog fans are probably gonna learn the hard way.

Well selling johnny football would be a million times easier than selling a no star wide receiver being moved to free safety

so you think Bert develops SB talent
lol
he may be a great coach, but that's pure coincidence
not to mention his recruiting at Arkansas has been awul. And that's fact

I could say the same thing about Malzahn's tenure at Auburn
Guess only time will tell which school made the better hire.

He's a moderately crappy FS, with no picks, no passes defended, and only 37 tackles in 3 years.
That Bret is bragging about this guy is just plain sad.
Any safety that will develop good enough to play at that level is good enough to play in college at any school. He might not be great in the NFL but he'd start almost anywhere in the country by the time he was a junior.
