what a load of shite this reasoning is. Go take a look at the out of state student percentage at this conferences best football program. They’re a lot worse than us with OOS students and it doesn’t seem to hurt them, does it?

Would like to see the proof. Not saying yourr wrong, i just dont follow them, but State has had some damn good hoops teams in the last 20 years...baseball too.

You won't find one. Ole Miss may have a better softball program. That's about it.

I say this as a State grad.

Ole Miss has the buy in and commitment that Alabama has in football. No where near the history, but they care about football on that level. When people say that Ole Miss has the most potential, this is what they mean. Ole Miss is like Texas A&M, a sleeping giant. Unfortunately, many of their alumni and boosters want to take shortcuts.

MSU just doesn’t have that kind of commitment to football. Sure we like it when we are good, but to most State fans, 8-4 and a Gator Bowl is pretty dang awesome. State people have always been better than Ole Miss about caring about non football. Starting with baseball in the 80s, and lately women’s basketball.

Like Alabama, Ole Miss doesnt give two shits about non football sports.

So to answer the question honestly, Ole Miss football is the better program and has the support structure to support a dynasty. MSU will forever be like Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Washington a State, and similar schools in that they can be proud of a great season or even a great run of 3-4 seasons, but will never be able to pull off what even auburn and LSU does. Ole Miss could be LSU or Auburn quickly.

I agree with this statement a lot. I always feel like we are right there if some of these boosters would just commit to a long term success plan. Only thing I do not agree with is us not caring about non football sports. We care a great deal about baseball since Bianco has taken over. Basketball is still lagging behind, but hopefully kermit the frog can get us back in the right spot

Man you perfectly nailed a 100% correct description of Oxford, MS. Congratulations dumbass.

Man, there have been some extremely ignorant, poorly thought out comments in this thread. Let's get a few things straight.

1.) To judge how good the program is you have to look at it differently depending on which era you are talking about. Army, Yale, and Vanderbilt were good in leather helmet days, but that does not have any impact on how good they are today, or how much potential their program has today. Ole Miss and State are basically mirror images of each other potential wise, with State having had the better leadership from the top down since 2009. This new era of "SEC money" where even the poor teams have 100 million dollar budgets has evened the playing field for teams like State and OM. Neither has more potential than the other, but State is clearly a more well run organization right now and has been since Templeton left.

2.) Starkville and Oxford are both small towns in MS that are cool and unique in their own way. Having been to Starkville more times than I can count and having been to Oxford just 2 weeks ago, I can tell you that there is not that much difference in the 2 as far as what you can do in those towns, and anyone who tells you differently is trolling or has not been to the other one in a very long time.

3.) Someone mentioned Ole Miss having better facilities. What the hell are you talking about? That's just not true in football or any other sport. Both schools have great facilities in basically every major sport. Their athletic budgets are basically the same.

4.) Someone mentioned Ole Miss caring more about football than MSU. Yea, that was true in 1960. It's not true today. State's last 2 hires are proof that they care and they care a lot. Ole Miss will get back on track as well and although I think Luke was hired to just make it through the NCAA mess, it's not an indictment on how much OM cares. They care plenty.

Both cellar dwellers, but at least Ole Myth has some football history. LSU - Ole Myth still great rivalry when Rebs are competitive.

Tell me, genius, why Oxford was just voted Top 5 small towns in America?

I'll wait.

Probably because it's a cool small town (like I just said)? You sound triggered as a son of a bitch about some nonscientific opinion poll.

Maybe because someone in Oxford paid to get on somebody's list? Happens all the time.

Dude didn't criticize the town, so you should probably get your undies unrustled.

That assessment couldn't be any further from the truth. Frank Beamer won 10+ games 13 times from 1995-2011, Bill Snyder won 11 games 5 out of 6 years from 98-03. Mississippi State has won 10 games twice in a 113 year program history. Washington State is the closest comparison here, at least until the 90's with the emergence of Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf in Pullman. Mike Leach's last 2-3 years is on par if not better than Mullen's strongest seasons in Starkville.

Frankly, the fact of the matter here is that State is one of the worst football schools in college football history. Tossed in with the likes of Indiana, Iowa State, Northwestern, Duke, and Wake Forest.
