Gary Crowton is the best thing to happen to LSU since, well, Nick Saban.

And FWIW, until Petrino gets a national title, Crowton easily wins this battle. If Petrino couldn't win a title in the crap conferences where it's a cakewalk to go undefeated, then I don't know if he ever will.

even with that we still put up tons of points. Id call 30 a game doing everything to put us in a position to win. If your D isn't complete crap that should be plenty too win.

Good God. I notice how you just totally disregard the FACT that Crowton put the defense in terrible positions with interceptions from a QB whose confidence was gone after being asked to repeatedly make plays that he wasn't capable of making, and the pick 6's. Gene Stallings would of won 10 games with that LSU team. I never read you as a complete homer HBT, I thought you were at least a little less pitiful than the average Tigerrant homer.

What about the possibility Crowton is a very good OC, but just sucked shite last year?

I think as a college OC Petrino is better overall. In a one game-bowl game type situation Crowton is just as good or better though.

It is interesting that all of Petrino's stud QBs have been absolute disgusting NFL flops. Redman, Brohm and Lefors have been pretty pathetic and were picked in the 3rd, 2nd and 4th. Hell Rattay and Flynn both 7th rounders are/will probably be more successful in the league.

Louisville was the champ of the Big East, so it wasnt like they were an at-large.

Also fwiw, that wake team they played had 1 win against a top 25 team. #20 boston college (who was also pretty shitty, their game winning field goal as time expired against navy propelled them into the final top 25 ).

So you'd take Crowton I'm assuming?

At any rate; I'm completely torn. I'm confident both coaches would turn the offense of Team X around quickly; but I can't really decide if one is better than the other. In the end I'd go with Petrino; but it is a razor slim margin either way.

As an offensive coordinator he had success with multiple teams and in the NFL.

As a head coach he took Louisville to levels they had never reached before. Those type of facts are broad and vauge, but call me lazy I don't feel like looking up exact yards/game statistics.

Now I realize Crowton has similiar accomplishments; but Petrino really can't be discounted that much.

In hindsight, I don't know if it was a bad idea.

Well, if Lowder died the only downside is we wouldn't get to see him in prison.

garys O had nothing to do with our d sucking. they were giving up points either way. even if he put them in some bad spots he wasn't the cause for a loss. There is a reason gary is still here and mallveto is not

But it did have something to do with not putting the team in a position to win more games. Frick HBT, have proven yourself as bad as any Bammer homer with your complete unwillingness to give Crowton a fraction of the blame for an underachieving 2008. I'm not saying he is bad, I am saying he was bad in terms of wins and loses last year.

I still say Gene Stallings would of won 10 games with that team last year.

Ross I don't think the x&o part of it gets any better than what Petrino can offer. I haven't watched Lsu enough under Crowton to say that. I'm sure both are probabaly as elite in that aspect of it as anyone. I do think one thing that goes with being a great coordinator is a great developer of QB's to go with that offense. I think Petrino is also very good at that. David Cutcliff, Kent Austin, and David Lee are others we've seen recently very good at both from a "pro-style" attack.

My money would be on Petrino to be better than Crowton. It seems like I've looked up some of Crowtons historical stats and teams are always a little better offensively the year after he leaves.
