Honestly Starkville and Oxford are both very nice College Towns. Starkville needs a few improvements and is currently getting them. The bigger cities is Mississippi it's the podunk shite towns that hurt Mississippi (Jackson).

Da fuq is this? If by Southern Alabama you mean gulf coast, then eliminate everything between Mobile and Tuscaloosa, maybe. Then again, that seems to completely ignore the Sipsey wilderness (NW), Huntsville/Madison/Decatur, and the Little River (NE). North Alabama is a fun place, unless of course you hate rocket science and natural beauty.

Alabama is easily the trailer park of the SEC.

As a musician, I've been all over this country and toured quite a bit in the South. I don't see how the frick some of y'all came up with your lists.
If we are going to make tiers, I'd say its something like this:
Tier 1-
Tennessee
Florida
Georgia
Tier 2-
Louisiana
Arkansas
Texas (I fricking hate TX but I'm trying to be objective here)
Missouri
South Carolina
Tier 3-
Mississippi
Kentucky
Alabama

I agree BamaChemE... this makes absolutely no sense. North Alabama, including Huntsville, is one of the nicest areas in Alabama. I've been many places and wouldnt hesitate a second raising my family in the Madison area. I'm assuming this butt munch has never been there before and is talking out of his arse.

How 'bout we just rank the best state for college football over the last, ummmm 4 years, and just throw ALABAMA right up there at #1?
You aight with that?

Tier 1 could also be states not quite trashy enough to procure a NASCAR track. (mind you, Alabama has the biggest)
Tier 1
Mississippi
Louisana
Arkansas
Missouri
South Carolina
Everyone else is Tier 2. All Tier 2 residents win the grand prize of 50 dicks to suck. You can choose to suck all 50 at once, or you can suck one dick per week for 50 weeks..

I think the first order of business, would be asking who has been to each respective state, as there are a lot of folks who would create some rankings that they have no idea about.
That said, I've been to them all, and I'd rank them, in order:
Tier1
Florida(All around best, most diverse, major cities, best looking women are in south FL, best beaches, good fishing/hunting, a lot of money)
Texas (Big, 3 major cities, good hunting, diverse landscape, big money areas)
Tier 2
Georgia (ATL-hub of the deep south, generally good people, good hunting)
Tennessee (Nashville is probably one of the best southern cities as far as being progressive while maintaining tradition IMO, the Tier 2 version of MS/AL-if they had their shite together)
Missouri (Two great cities that put them into the second Tier, Vast difference between North and South MO)
Tier 3
Louisiana (The most culturally diverse state in the SEC, New Orleans is probably the most historic city of the traditional south, the four seasons, good fishing/hunting, big difference between South and North LA, cons are government corruption)
South Carolina (Similar to LA, Charleston would be New Orleans "light", better golfing than any states ranked lower, good people-same mold of Georgia in that sense)
Arkansas (Hills are nice, good duck hunting, not as corrupt as LA/MS/AL, NW Alabama has a lot of money)
Kentucky (Louisville is a great city, the Derby, Nothing about Kentucky sets it apart as far as culture)
Tier 4
Alabama (Good hunting, Birmingham being corrupt has stunted the growth of the state, Doesn't offer much that any other state has, outside of Huntsville and the gulf region of the state-there is not much memorable about the state)
Mississippi (The backwards child, Good music, Poorest of the poor, decades behind to a degree that is nearly comparable to Eastern Bloc European countries, Best hunting of the deep south)
