During Derrick Henry's time at Alabama, Alabama played:
Colorado State
Georgia State
Chattanooga
Florida Atlantic
Southern Miss
Western Carolina
Middle Tennessee St
Louisiana Monroe
Charleston Southern
Plenty of games to pad those stats!

I must admit that Henry being able to use 3 years worth of stats for his single season rushing record is a bit unfair.
But frick it, I'll allow it.

You're the one who keeps bringing up what Henry has done in the NFL, yet you only want to look at one college season.

But ok, I'll play your game. In 2015, Henry padded his stats against:
Middle Tennessee St
Louisiana Monroe
Charleston Southern
Now do the same thing with Herschel.

Lok if you are too young to know the difference in the game sI am not hear to school you. Do just a little research. Start with looking at time teams threw the ball compared to how often the ran the ball and you will see a clear pattern.
I’d prob start just comparing Herschel to other RBs the seasons he played and the same for Henry. Henry didn’t even lead the SEC in ypg in 2015.

And no where in the title of this thread does it say "single season rushing record".

382
990
The first two years rushing totals for Henry.
No greatest RB can truly call himself that with those totals.
1616
1891
1752
Herschel put numbers up for three years, with everybody in the stadium knowing he was getting the ball.

Averaged 148 yards a game across all 15 that season... averaged 72 yards in those 3. I'm not really sure that's how you pad stats.

Henry was like 4th string that first season and a backup his second season when the offense was centered around a Heisman candidate WR in Amari Cooper.
No surprise that the year they finally tailor the offensive attack towards him he wins the Heisman while breaking SEC records. Also teams knew he was getting the ball in 2015 and he still ran over everybody.

And Herschel averaged 172 rushing yards per game in 1981, more than 148.

Nobody outside of Alabama fans think Henry is the best SEC RB of all time. Herschel rushed for more yards in his career, was a 3 year starter, was bigger than the LB of his day, at best Henry was as big as linebackers in his era, Walker ran a faster 40, 35 years before Henry. Hershel’s not only the best back in SEC history, many feel he’s the best player in CFB history. Walker was running against 9 & 10 man boxes, against P5 teams every week. The only non P5 Teams UGA played from 80-82 were Temple and Memphis. Georgia routinely had 1 WR sets. Walker was Georgias offense. Walker also played in an era when you could put a RB in a coma and not draw a personal foul penalty. Henry wasn’t a starter his Freshman season and rushed for 300 some odd yards. He ran for less than 1000 yards as a sophomore. Walker rushed for 1600, 1890, & 1750 yards in an 11 game season.
I’m a Henry fan, but cmon, no.

Nobody is denying Henry had a great year. But calling him the greatest RB in SEC history is too far, when he had two other years that were very ordinary in comparison. Herschel was THE focus for three years and he withstood the pressure, never losing an SEC game.

I can't really take people who use "P5" as a metric of team strength seriously.

When you look at his NFL career and how he's running over professional defenders the same way he did in college, I think the argument could be made for Henry to possibly be the greatest running back to ever come through the SEC.
If you want to say Herschel had the best career, not many could argue. Credit where it's due in both cases. But Henry has been a monster since high school, and his consistency at every level sets him apart from everyone else in my opinion.

Very true, and most Alabama fans don’t either

Meanwhile Derrick Henry holds the SEC rushing record, did it on fewer attempts, did it against better competition and lead his team to a national championship.
Henry is the best RB in modern SEC history, accounting for offensive changes to the game.
Herschel and Bo did it in run heavy, play action offenses with defenses built to stop the run first.
I think Henry's size, speed and power would have had him do well in the 80s and 90s, too. But, different eras and styles make it an impossible conversation to look at objectively.
