Thank you for something resembling a lucid point. If GT said that Alabama fans are not ridiculous about UA's academic standing, he is very wrong. I didn't see it, but if he did, you are right.

Accusing me of being a prime example of refusing to acknowledge Alabama fans' shortcomings is completely disingenuous, and you know it. I have many faults, and I am a homer as much as the next guy on here, but I know I am at least above average at acknowledging our own fan behavior. I have not seen the same from you, which makes me wonder why you feel you have the moral authority to "point and laugh".

Would you like me to find a prototypical post you made recently?

Then you arent looking closely enough.

Please do. Please find any post I have ever made that unreasonably defends Alabama fans or a particular fan. Do not waste time by finding an attack on auburn - I admit to those - but we're talking about refusing to acknowledge Alabama fans' shortcomings.

You will not find one. But I have little doubt that you will reply, and it will be short and vague and proving nothing.

There are more, but youve made a few that I remeber recently that have just made me laugh

You think it's coincidence that we never start threads trying to explain away auburn's success, or Tennessee's? We don't have to bother.

Would you like me to prove your delusional statement as false as well? Like I said, its a lost cause, I dont feel like walking you through every little aspect

You win. I don't really believe what I posted, but I remember posting it and it definitely is unreasonable.

Game over.

My buddy in Graduate school was a former engineer from Alabama...he graduated from Auburn...We both left engineering careers for nursing..

I'm friends with a ton of Alabama engineers, but I've meet all of them through engineering internships and co-ops offered by Auburn.

They're not bad engineers, but even they will tell you that Auburn gets the nod on funding for engineering, and that makes the difference between the two schools. I think Alabama just built some new buildings for their engineering school, so that's obviously a good thing.

I always tell people that Alabama doesn't have a bad engineering program at all, it's just not very comparable to Auburn's.

They do...70K is a conservative number. This is very misleading. The average starting pay for a RN in the south is 22-25 an hour or about 44k-50k. Now yes if you add in diff pay for working nights/weekends and overtime, it can climb up there. But one shouldnt count that when comparing straight salaries

Fair enough..but those shift differentials are agreed upon on contract and should be considered a part of the salary, ...the same with weekend pay. We should also consider the work week to be 40 hours for comparison in this study. Having said that we are looking at an average pay of about 53-59K. I'll split the difference with you...

Now..in the real world..you and I both know...nurses work overtime (particularly new nurses) and get incentive pay in many cases.. What makes this interesting is most of these other positions are salaried. So the overtime is a taboo variable that should hold some degree of weight..IMHO

I'm an engineer in Huntsville that went to Alabama. If you are going to live in the Southeast anywhere, it literally makes no difference whether your degree came from Alabama or Auburn. UAH is sometimes even considered better than both.

And there is even less perceived difference outside the Southeast, I can assure you.

Alabama's engineering program is on the rise, thats for sure. They have been awarded some contracts and had some donations that have allowed for the growth. combined with the student population growth

Well there's a good chance I'll be going the graduate school route, and like you I've got nothing but anecdotal evidence from everyone I've spoken with that Auburn is second to GT alone as a research institution in the southeast.

I'm sure an engineering degree from Alabama will net you a nice life, so I am not trying to slight the institution.

With all due respect, Virginia Tech has a far superior Engineering Program than Auburn. Auburn's Engineering Program is probably on par with NC State or a little below...

I attended a Top 10 Engineering Program before transferring to BAMA and was accepted to/visited each of the aforementioned schools. Respectfully, Auburn's Engineering Program isnt even the best in the SEC, let alone the South Eastern Region.

Thanks for the respect, but I wasn't really thinking of Virginia when I was talking southeast.

I'm curious, where'd you go before Bama?

I knew a guy that told me Clemson had a far superior Vet School than AU, it happen to be the school that he could get in.

I work for the Government, and AU is highly recognized as one of the best engineering schools in the South (behind GT). What has hurt AU Engineering in the past are their facilities. That has changed recently.

Just signing with Auburn or Alabama, can easily get you a $180,000 signing bonus.

That's true, but once you get that bonus you leave to transfer to Memphis with a huge belly and a 0.0 GPA. Then the program is shredded by penalties and left for dead.

After the auburn bonus you get a Heisman, a quick blessing by the NCAA, and a national championship.

We are CLEARLY not doing this right.

that ain't right.. It is WAY HIGHER.

Though they are vastly outnumbered, active duty military engineers probably knock the crap out of that average.

I agree it seems low, though. Hell I knew guys making more than that (petrochemical) right out of school 32 years ago.
