Best LSU-MSU games?

There haven't been many good ones in my lifetime, I heard it was a very competitive series in the 80s. I'd go with
1999: State wins 17-16: one of LSU's worst teams ever (lost a bunch of close games and had some talent though) nearly beat maybe State's best team ever. MSU scored late after their FB fumbled but was somehow ruled down. If replay had been around, LSU probably wins. MSU didn't best LSU again until 2014
2000: LSU 45, MSU 38 in OT. Another really good State team that prob should have won the west vs Saban's first LSU team. Back and forth game with lots of good running. LSU scored first in OT and stuff State on 4th down to win. However, LSU RB Labrandon Toefield (I think it was him) had apparently fumbled before crossing the plane in one of LSU's TDs. So this one might have also gone the other way with instant replay. It was kind of a turning point for both programs as MSU proceeded to have three straight losing seasons before Sherrill got fired and LSU won the SEC the next season

2009 was the funnest college football game I have ever attended. LSU 30, State 26.
Chad Jones, man. Chad Jones.
It was Mullen's first year and State fans didn't know what we had. We didn't expect to be within 4 TDs of LSU and we almost won.

The 14 and 17 games were good.

There was one earlier in Mullen's tenure where MSU had it on the 1 for a couple of plays. On 4th down, a 5'9" 180lb JUCO QB tried to run it in. Other options were any RB and a 6'3" 250lb QB in Chris Relf.

14-16 had some classic games. Broke my hand after the shite show in 15. Let’s just act like 2000-2013 never happened or existed please and thank you

Still better than not calling a time out, taking a delay penalty, and then missing a game winning field goal because of said fricking penalty. I don’t miss that bastard.

1980. MSU 55 lsu 31. Two weeks after MSU's historic 6-3 win over Bama MSU traveled to Jackson to beat up lsu. Glen Young took the 2nd half kickoff for a score to break a 24-24 tie. MSU never looked back.

2000 was a classic! Another huge game that greatly contributed to the awakening of both Death Valley and the LSU football program. Just go back and watch that OT as Miss St. is stopped on 4th down and the stadium erupts as Saban jumps for joy into the arms of players. That 2000 season was fun as hell after losing the magic so swiftly after just bringing it back 5 years earlier.

Nick Saban figured out Joe Lee Dunn's defense at halftime and the entire SEC copied what LSU did for the rest of the season and in 2001.

always been amused with the 1967 game. LSU won, 55-0. In the entire 1967 season State only scored 49.

Didn't MSU get hit with sanctions around 2000 as well?

We had some good ones in the 70’s where either team won by 1 to 3 points 4 or 5 times.

Oh man, Chad Jones saved the day for LSU. MSU had it first and goal from LSU 2 yard line and we couldn’t get in on 3 plays. Mullen set up a 4th down beautifully and our TE was all alone right side of endzone and Chad reached those long arms out on the line of scrimmage and got his finger tips on the pass.
It still made it to our TE but Chad got just enough of it to slightly change the trajectory and our TE could not recover in time since the pass was fast and short and he failed to catch it. That game drove me to drinking lol.

2002 is when that stuff started, 2003 was when it hit.
Here's the MSU timeline in that era
1996 - beat top 10 Alabama but failed to make a bowl
1997 - Had a solid 7-4 team
1998 - won SEC West in a season where Alabama, Auburn and LSU all had losing records.
1999 - Went 10-2 with very little offense and the No. 1 defense in country.
2000 - favorite to win West, beat both SEC Championship participants (Auburn and Florida) and that OT loss to LSU sent State on bad trajectory. Covered it up with a Snow Bowl win over Aggy.
2001 - Preseason Top 15, returned everyone meaningful, went 3-8 but had 5 or 6 really close losses. Wasn't as bad as record.
2002 - tried to rebuild with unknown JUCO talent. Was terrible.
2003 - Sanctions hit. Was terrible. Sherrill retired.
2004 - Beginning of the Croom error. Lost to Maine.
2005 - Evident that Croom cant coach. Wait, did we just count from the Georgia 30 after going for it on 4th and 2 from the 45?
2006 - Why is he still here
2007 - Stout defense wins some games, we go to the Liberty Bowl and our fans treat it like the Sugar Bowl
2008 - Croom still cant coach
2009 - Mullen hired.

Given Sherril's track record, I was definitely shocked when MSU choked down the stretch in 2000 and then the bottom just dropped out. Also bizzare was that was the first of 8 straight losses to Arky for yall

Bitter loss for State. MSU drove the length of the field to tie it up late by scoring in the North endzone in the 4th. Sherrill should have gone for 2 due to MSU being dog-tired (npi). Fullback broke his hand on that drive and Pork Chop Womack, who later played in the NFL, waved off his replacement after injuring his foot on the same drive. Lsu showed off the newest stadium expansion with a roaring crowd. MSU blew a 14 point lead (twice).

The State of MS produces some top Juco recruits. Jackie loaded up on them but turned out to be a very over ranked bunch of players. They say it was one of the worst years in the state for over ranked Juco players and it showed up early. We never recovered. It was like getting hit by the ncaa two fold.
ETA: If memory serves me right, the 2000 year we had some critical injuries late in season . It was after 2000 we had the Juco jinx.

1974 - State 7, LSU 6
State had a really good team but had not defeated LSU since 1963. Game was in Jackson and was very memorable for me.
It was about 38 degrees and rainy. State led 7-0 late in the 4th quarter. LSU scored and went for two to win it. We batted away the pass in the end zone to hold on for win. Atmosphere was electric the whole game despite the low score.
1985 in Baton Rouge - LSU 17, State 15
My first trip to Tiger Stadium and I had great time. Dalton Hilliard was the RB for LSU. Don Smith was the QB for State. Really great game that went down to the wire and LSU held on for the win.
There are some others as well. 1982 and 1984 were close wins for State.
