2006 USC vs. Texas

The top coach, and one of the top coaches at the time - Disagree nobody gives Mac Brown that kind of credit Advantage 2009

37-1(25-0) vs. 23-1, 12-0 vs. 12-0, #1 vs #2,
Slight Advantage 2006 because of USC in 2003.

Reggie Bush, Vince Young.. TWO of the best college football players ever.

They put up great stats but I don't hear of them as the greatest ever.

TWO Heisman trophy winners and a game involving the top 2 heisman trophy candidates that year.

I'd lump these two areas together.

Tebow/Ingram < Bush/Young/Leniart/White

Potential 1st rounders:
Advantage 2009

USC 2-time defending national champions

USC 34 game winning streak

Already covered under first part.

Texas defending Rose Bowl champions

meaningless, they didn't play USC the year before.
Advantage Bama UF rematch.

Game played in the best bowl game (Rose Bowl)
Advantage 2006

More NFL talent in one game than possibly ever.

Remains to be seen but I think this year there's more NFL talent. Advantage 2009

One thing I hadn't mentioned yet was the matchup of Tebow the best player ever in college football vs. the best LB in football in McClain. This is better than Bush vs. Young because they actually go against each other every play and will literally meet head on.
Advantage 2009

2006 had a better venue, and the top names in Leinart/Bush/Young at the time.

2009 has a better headline of coaches, it being a rematch of last year, a better head to head matchup in Tebow vs. McClain, more 1st round talent, more overall NFL talent.

I'd like to hear from some knowledgeable Bama fans and have them rank this year's team against their past great teams...ie 1979

I seriously don't even know why any other D-I teams even play football. Compared to Bama, all are irrelevant.

Did you forget the two regular season losses? Jesus and you folks call "gumps" delusional

winning the natlchampn, beating 6 of the final ranked 15 top teams and that is not counting the win over bama and you think we are delusional? Everyone else worth mentioning had 2 losses. And no how could i forget the 2 overtime losses. It was gutwrenching just like all the turnovers in the bama game.

the fact that you admittedly dont know much about the history of CFB, yet dont want to listen to everybody trying to tell you things, is why you are getting the responses.. hell man, you dont even have any other Bama fans in here taking your side..

This. The thread should have ended with that post. The fact that you never heard of Devaney says a lot of your college football knowledge. Your knowledge seems to only go back as far as 2008.

Best Tard Post of the thread:
quote:

Cody - No Doubt
Dareus- No Doubt
Deaderick - He'll be drafted no question, starter in a few years is more of a prediction
RoLO- Of course
Eric Anders - My biggest stretch, but he'll get drafted
Nico Johnson- True Freshman, but just wait (this would be Hightower if he wasn't injured)

A lock on future greatness, NFL no less, after only playing part of one season.

Ivan Maisel's perspective

You are welcome to think Nico won't be drafted in the NFL, if Hightower hadn't torn his ACL I wouldn't have had to bring him into the conversation.

I'll gladly make a monetary wager if you truly don't believe Nico will make it to the NFL.

you called him the best linbacker in CFB, and listed him as a reason this is the (trying not to laugh) 'greatest college football game of all time'..

shite man, even the column you linked calls it the 'best game of the year'.. think about that for a second.. its the best game in a year where Alabama and Florida are the only two decent teams in the SEC, Oklahoma and USC had their worst years in a decade.. Michigan and Notre are national jokes.. and the ACC is back to horrible.. its the best game of the year when the main discussion of the year centers around teams like TCU, Boise State and Cincinnati.. i mean, congratulations on that, i guess..

You haven't figured it out yet. The SEC Rant is laughing at your "argument" and the Bama Fans are reading your posts and shaking their heads on the sidelines.

There are some very knowledgeable Bama fans here and they won't touch what you are trying to push forward. Telling....very telling indeed.

Do you honestly believe that Tebow/McClain is bigger nationally(not just the south) than Young/Bush-Leinart?

It's never a good arguement when a Bama OP only has only one other Gump defending his rantard thought...and even he cut out 3 pages ago, yet you still keep fighting.

I didn't expect everyone to jump on board today. I'll just archive this away and once you see the final total of all americans, all sec talent, plus what these guys do in the NFL over the next 10 years this game will easily stand out on its own.

Yes I absolutely believe McClain vs. Tebow is a much more impactful matchup than Bush vs. Young.

Especially since Bush never went against Young they just watched each other from the sidelines.
