Tough question to answer because the LBers have a big influence on the dline's measureables (rushing D, sacks, etc.).
In terms of rushing D, Alabama's 2011 front 7 might be the best of all time.
In terms of sacks - the highest avg. per game in the SEC since 2007 is ... believe it or not ...
2007 Georgia.
They are closely followed by 2008 Ole Miss and 2012 South Carolina.

That line is extremely impressive, but it didn't dominate season long like LSU's 2003 line did. That DL was gorilla chainsaw penis beastly.

The 2000 defensive line for UGA was pretty good. Richard Seymour, Marcus Stroud, Charles Grant and Josh Mallard, with Johnathan Sullivan as the primary backup. That's four first round picks (6,6,13 and 25 overall) and a 7th round pick

That line is far and away the most dominating I have ever seen. I joined the Rant in 2003 when LSU came to Columbia. I thought USC was pretty good and could hang with the Tigers. LSU's d-line tossed USC's o-line around like rag dolls from the very first play. That game was over after USC's first series. It was obvious USC simply could not block them.
Ultimately it turned out USC was not near as good as I thought -- but that doesn't take away from LSU. Those sumbitches were good.

I don't ever remember Courtney UpShaw being a 34 lineman. I only remember him putting his hand on the ground as if in a 43 defense.

That was definitely one of the finest DLines not only in SEC history, but in college football history. I used to watch John Henderson on every play and he was a man among boys in college.
That DLine along with LSU's 2003 DLine were just exceptional.
IMHO SCAR's 2013 DLine has the potential to be one of the best with Clowney, Sutton, Dixon, English and Harris at DEs and Quarles, Dukes, Dixon Jr., Green and JT Surrat at DT.
I also agree that the 2011 DLine at SCAR was pretty damn good with all of those NFLers.

That's all well and good, but South Carolina finished 6th in the SEC in rushing D in 2011. Maybe you guys had talent on the line, but that didn't stop people from running all over your asses.
Just to put things in perspective, Alabama gave up only 72 yards per game on the ground that year. LSU gave up only 90. South Carolina? 136. LINK
