Jimbo.
I confess I was jealous when Aggie hired Jimbo. And perhaps somewhere else, it could have worked.
By default we are blaming Jimbo, but maybe after he saw what he got into, he just decided to make bank.

I thought Fuente was a good hire too. He built what norvell inherited. And up until this year I assumed it was norvell that made him look good especially given his last two years at fsu plus he kept Memphis rolling after Fuente left. After fsu last three games, I’m not sure if that’s true
Norvell didn't coach under Fuente at Memphis. Norvell was Todd Graham's OC at Arizona State prior to being hired by Memphis.
Fuente was the first one that came to mind for me as well. Charlie Strong at Texas was surprising but I think Texas had some culture/booster issues to overcome.
Joe Moorhead was a media darling when Mississippi State hired him and basically every talking head thought it was a great hire. His W/L record doesn't reflect how poorly coached his offense was at MSU since he inherited a roster full of NFL defensive players (3 1st round picks on that 2018 MSU defense).

Ahh I thought it was possibly his second, sometimes I get mixed up.

Did not realize that. I always thought norvell was Fuente oc.

Steve Sloan at Ole Miss.

I thought Frost, as well.
I really thought Chip Kelly would have success at UCLA given the state of the Pac 12 and his former success at Oregon. But, in 6 years he left 1 game above .500 and only bowl eligible 3 times.

Anyone know Darrell Royal coached twice Mississippi State? Position coach and then head coach.
Yea. That Darrell Royal.

Willie Taggart at FSU. He had greatness written all over him.
Or maybe this is where Ty Willingham at ND parked his car?

Rich Rod or Brady Hoke at Michigan. Both were considered pretty good options when they were hired.

I was coming back here to post Rodriguez to Michigan but you beat me to it. I fully expected him to dominate what at the time was still a very stodgy and conservative B1G.
