Why didn’t Auburn do the same then? (Pat Dye has now entered the chat.)

because it was against NCAA rules and Shug wouldn't do it. Barfield was too stupid. Dye got here, somebody who saw how bear operated first hand, and it began. We also started beating bama again.

NO, but you can damn sure stack the talent deck in your favor

That talent still needs to be coached. Just look at Texas A&M.

So Auburn wasn't on probation in 1957 and 1958 and ineligible for post-season play due to recruiting violations?

Bear paved the way for Saban at Alabama.

That said, Saban. He was able to do it at LSU, a program that had been sleeping for 50 years before Saban showed up and shook them awake.

Weren’t you in a life or death struggle over Christianity earlier tonight?

A Train Wreck

You reckon Jesus cares as much about college football as you?

I mean, before Hugh Freeze got there.

You gloss over this as if it’s not arguably the defining factor when comparing the two.

If the talent was more skewed then, why was it not reflected in the NFL draft?

Top players didn’t just line up to warm the bench in the days of scholarship limits. Far more players just elected to stay close to home then too.

Bryant’s teams were mostly in state kids. Saban’s teams, and any other powerhouse team nowadays, are basically national high school all star teams.

Guess which year Alabama football was desegregated. 1971. Football > everything in that state.

so your reply is, yeah we stacked the deck and had every conceivable advantage, but we still had to coach them?

Thats pretty funny my guy

Trumped up charges that were never proven true. Just rumor the NCAA ran with about some payments equal to what HaHa Clinton Dix received from a coach at bama

Not for Ole Miss. They were the last SEC football team to desegregate. In 1972.

I am not naive enough to deny that student-athletes were paid by boosters while playing for Alabama. However, everyone else does it. Once again...we just do it better.

Try to suck less.

Seems like the easy out is apples to oranges - too many unreconcilable differences to compare fairly.
Like, any point you make for one, you could easily counter with “yeah but it was like that for the other teams too”.

Otherwise it’s got the be Bear. So much

Yes there are scholarship limits now. National recruiting and scouting is also infinitely easier now than it was in Bryant’s era.

You’re answering your own question gump.

If the talent was so skewed during Bryant’s era, why did the NFL draft not reflect that?

Now you’re strawmanning.

Coach Bryant and it's not even close. Nick has to have the best players in college football to win coach Bryant never even had anything near what we call a five-star player now. They were a bunch of skinny kids from Alabama that he kicked arse with from coast to coast.

Bear cheated far more and enjoyed a much greater advantage in a time of far less parity with shared (and far less defendable) champions being crowned.

Saban is better

Doesn’t surprise me. I grew up in the 70s. It’s been a screwed up torturous ride since. I am in my 50s. And we sucked a great part of my life. The state of Mississippi should have never had 3 Division 1 programs. Not enough talent or money to build a huge program. And Johnny Vaught could have pushed the powers that be to build and improve facilities. He didn’t.
