Saban was only able to do what he did at Alabama because of the legacy Bryant created.

This includes both the appropriately celebrated winning tradition created by the Bear, and the organization he left behind including the REC and network of bagmen.

Saban certainly deserves his place as one of the greatest coaches in CFB history. But he is not the best. He wouldn’t have accomplished what he did at Bama at another school.

You just blew the minds of the crowd that believe Alabama was only good because of Nick Saban.

Bryant was a cheating SOB, and a drunk

Ah, to have forgotten the Mikes and Frans.

What bliss that must be.

I would argue what he did is more impressive than the Bear.

This. Saban dominated when the SEC was at its strongest in history

During Bears tenure the SEC wasn’t that great

Bryant won National Championships without having the strength of the SEC to get him there.

Without that, Saban doesn’t get into the title game in 2011 or the playoff in 2017. There might not even be a playoff in 2020 without the SEC making it happen.

Maybe, but 3 of the top 5 programs in CFB this year were from his coaching tree and using his process.

As a life long time Alabama fan, since the 60's, I agree 100%

There will be rebuttal, mostly from unlearned adolescents who weren't even thought of when Coach Bryant was coaching, or from those old enough to be painfully reminded of his dominance, but what you said is 100% correct.

Don’t get me wrong, we all witnessed what happened (aside from Stallings) post Bryant. A bad coach wasn’t going to be successful just because of Alabama.

It’s fair to say that Saban and Alabama elevated each other.

Disagree. You could easily make the argument that Wallace Wade paved the way for Bear Bryant. And both of those coaches only had to deal with recruiting high school players, there was no portal, NIL, all that stuff. And there was no playoff. You could play in a big bowl game and declare yourself national champion. Saban won more national championships than anyone, and he did it in a tougher environment.

Je won championships that were mostly on paper, voted by media clowns who, in those days, didn't see many of the teams they were ranking play.

Championships before the BCS Era were jokes. Recall how often the #2 team beat #1 during the BCS. How often would that have happened during the 1930s-90s? They probably didn't pick the best team èven 50% of the time.

Or, to have never known them. I'm jealous of Bama fans that are younger than 25. Those who have no real memory of who we once were. Such sweet bliss.

Ahem... Mike DuBose won a SEC championship.
