How about a Coach quitting on a player after the third series
It's almost like you aren't aware that Barnett had been on campus for 2 years of fall practice and 2 years spring practices. He'd seen the kid play in scrimmages a ton. He gave him an opportunity to prove himself and Blake looked scared of the moment.
I wish him success at ASU and in life, but he was given a chance at Bama and didn't take advantage of it.

Terry Bowden quit on Auburn after 6 weeks/

There's usually not any open vacancies in the 4th week of the season. Coaches also don't have to worry about sitting out a year of they want to change jobs.

Only one that irks me is Barnett. Bateman at least stuck around for the season, as did Cornwell (who is going to be the Nevada starter). Can't get too mad, have the offensive player of the year returning, with tua as a backup.

It's just not. I don't know where you keep coming up with this stuff. His 1st year he was on the verge of taking the job until the scrimmages and then last year they were all but begging him to until his threw what, 6 picks, 3 of which were returned for TDs or something like that?
This is the truth. Barnett sucked it up in the scrimmages.

I think Barnett definitely would have had a role especially late in the season when Hurts was having trouble throwing the ball. He jumped the gun by quitting when he did. Hurts outplayed Barnett in the USC game but he was still a true freshman and he was sure to make mistakes that would have provided more opportunities.
I think that Barnett would have crumbled under the kind of pressure and pass rushes that Jalen faced, especially late in the season. Would have been real ugly. Many, many sacks.

So you are saying, after two years a kid is given two series to prove himself ? I guess it is time to make room for another and excel the process. That is fine, but don't throw stuff at him as he is heading out the door.

Sorry, you didn't get your wish for Bama to have a "deer-in-the-headlight" quarterback.
This issue isn't why he was replaced, but how he was treated by "everyone" when he decided to transfer. The excuses I read on this post, typifies that culture.

Not sure why you would engage Irons on an Alabama topic. He's literally, in the history of this board, never entered a thread regarding Alabama and posted a single positive or neutral thing. Whether it's academics, football, hacky sack, etc. He's incapable. He's also incapable of staying away.

I was actually one of the ones that took up for him when he transferred, but he has made several comments since then that makes him come across as an entitled douche.

Maybe you should read the comments on the Auburn board regarding their history with recent QB's.

This article pretty much sums up Barnett's first 2 years at Alabama.
This is a report coming into 2016 scrimmage. There is not a single word about Barnett having a history of turnovers in practice, but there is a note that he needs to gain weight, which we heard often for the 2 years he was at Alabama. For those slow on the uptake, the "prodigy" of the 3 qbs, in the article, was referring to Barnett
There is also this...
"[b]Needing to gain some weight (he’s still listed as 6’5”, 200 lbs) and experience, Alabama had Barnett redshirt and face its top-notch defense every day with the scout team last year. That gave the Californian not only a chance to acclimate but also a physical taste, as players such as defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson weren’t exactly known for their restraint.
“Blake had some ups and downs last year with some injuries and illness and things that probably held him back a little bit,” head coach Nick Saban said. “So we’re all kind of anxious to see how he matures and how he does this spring as well.”
Breaking Down Alabama's QB Battle Leading into Tide's 1st Spring Scrimmage
It was widely reported that Barnett had a couple of bad scrimmages in fall camp last year, but not in the previous 2 years he'd been there. He was, as noted in the article..."The Prodigy".
It's neither here not there, now, and Hurts again has a chance to prove himself. Hopefully, he'll have improved reading defenses before and after the snap, cut down on his turnovers in real live games, and developed a passing game beyond the line of scrimmage. If he can't manage these things, I suppose Tagovailoa will get a real chance to prove he's better.

You were just disappointed that Bama wasn't stuck with a bad QB, that would have given Auburn a better chance to beat them.

He's a bot. He sees Alabama and he immediately figures out what the negative opinion on the topic is, and he takes that side.
It's science at this point.

And yet, in the 3 games Barnett played in last year, he didn't turn it over a single time, unlike Hurts.

And you are one of the biggest Bama Apologist regardless of their behavior. Were you not one of the posters who attacked him as a quitter ? I guess moral backbone and fan support do not mix. Not in the Bama World by some on here.

I kind of agree with you Huddie about reports leading up to fall scrimmages last year. Then throughout fall scrimmages, the one word most associated with his name was "turnovers."
