This is a kid's 1 chance to follow his dream. He doesn't come just so he can help Saban earn 6 mill per year. He comes to try and fulfill the dream he and his family have worked hard at for a very long time.
Saban is the selfish one here. Bammers can go crazy all they want. It is the truth.

I was front and center at the USC game right behind the Bama bench. Barnett had a deer in the headlights look those first couple of series. Jalen came in and just took over and looked good doing it. It was that obvious and Saban and Kiffin weren't going to pull him because he was lighting it up.

Blake Barnett didn't win the starting quarterback job in 2015 and 2016 for one reason: He was a turnover machine in scrimmages.

The crap that both these players took from fans and Saban was amazing. They called them quitters, but now we know that Saban doesn't think being a liar is a character flaw.

Oh ok, so only military commitments matter in life. Got ya. Solid.

If a coach leaves during the season to personally help himself he is rightfully ROASTED in the media. And that is the point here. Nobody is saying he shouldn't be allowed to do it, but what we are saying is he should expect it to be attached to him and that people might say it was a bad decision. That's how life works.

I would bet most players would say do what you have to do to further your career.

Yea? Find me some examples of them. There aren't many. Almost all waited until the end of the year.

I don't think that's in question. What they're saying is it wasn't communicated with them that Hurts was going to get the bulk of the snaps. They went in thinking it was their job and poof.

Maybe it was a case of them just assuming they would have the job regardless of what was playing out during practice.

"One started against USC, looked scared and was replaced and out performed by a true freshman. It also didn't help that he got into it with Kiffin on the sideline the very next game."
End of conversation.

Good for him, I hope it works out and he is able to do that.

He still quit on his team that he committed to be a part of for the entire 2016 season. He got what we he wanted, he left and is able to start at ASU this season. I really hope he does well. But he doesn't also get to determine the narrative of quitting and leaving.

That doesn't justify Saban not being honest about his plans. I like how he talks about that old school attitude of competiton and not quitting but he doesn't believe in old school integrity of letting his players know where they stand.

If you're going into the first game splitting time with the other two QBs, that's a pretty clear picture of where you stand, which is on unsure footing.

I don't blame Barnett for transferring, but if he'd been patient, he'd have gotten another chance to be starting QB when Hurts failed in the passing game and reading defenses vs good defensive teams.

I think with Barnett, we'd have won the Clemson game. With Hurts non factor in downfield passing, we had 2 whole series more than 5 plays. The defense forced 2 turnovers on Clemson's side of the field and the offense scored 3 points for it.

Only Barnett was called a quitter. Bateman stuck around for the rest of the season, and everyone assumed he would transfer. It wasn't a shock to anyone when he announced he was transferring.

And I didn't take Saban's comments to be directed at Barnett but at his dad for facilitating his son quitting.

You'd have thought they were Jeremy Johnson or something...and he didn't even quit his team. Saban has no problem with a kid transferring out of conference...not quitting in the middle of the season.

I respect the shite out of Bateman. Cornwell also waited out the season and transferred.

The only one who quit on his team was Barnett.

Feel for Bateman, guy worked his arse off for 3 years and then had it ripped away by Hurts. But, that's the way life works. Bateman stuck around and kept working hard even after all that, so I respect the hell out of him. It couldn't have been easy.

This. He could have easily taken the Barnett route and transferred mid season. He stuck it out the whole way. Wish the best for him.

The little midget blames the kid, because saban his self was being a hypocrite. Saban talked all that crap about that kid but the kid was being lied to the whole time.

Oh, and as far as Barnett having a reputation of turning the ball over a lot during practices, all we heard for the 2 years he was here was that he was a very good QB and was the future but needed to add weight.

Also, it's prudent to note that in live games, Hurts turned the ball over quite a lot. I think 9 interceptions and fumbled 11 times but we lost only 5 of those fumbles.

I think you are taking this a little personally. Yeah he probably should have hung in there but I also get why he did it. He wanted to get to ASU and his new team, learn the playbook, and max out his eligibility. Saban made a business decision and so did Barnett. I wish the kid well and hope he finds success at ASU.

What would he have gained by leaving early? By staying the full season, Bateman still wouldn't have to sit a year out. Barnett would have had to sit a year out.

That's just not true and has been discussed ad nausea on our board so it isn't worth re-hashing. Every big live scrimmage they had for 2 years Barnett puked on his shoes. Kiffin desperately wanted Barnett to take the reigns his freshman year and then again last year and he never did it.
