I guess some fans will be sitting side by side with their spouses/family, girl friends etc. two to four people in a group. So if average ticket groups are three people sitting together you can have spacing.

Thankfully, there a not enough street people in College Station to fill all the empty seeds at Reed. And even if there were, no way in hell our AD would go giving away those $26 chicken wraps.

good point. All these ADs know how to milk their fan base without giving much back.

If they are going to allow lower capacity just let the students attend and spread them out. It's college football so let those currently attending get to experience the games. Just my opinion
I've been saying this for a while. As others have noted, if the kids are in town for classes, the additional exposure from going to a football game and skipping every other seat is minimal. (If the kids aren't in town for class, we won't be playing football.)
The article said that Kentucky could seat all its season ticket holder at 50% capacity, but not everyone can do that. Even if you can find a seat, of some sort, for every season ticket holder (and maybe there would be enough that opt out to make this possible), all seats are not created equal, and you're going to have to refund a boatload of money to folks that are bumped out of premium seating. At some point, the refunding and re-seating process becomes so onerous that it's easier just to tell them all that we're going students only, and everyone else gets a refund or credit for next year.

Even if you sit in family groups it means know one can sit within 6 feet of either side or in front or back of you. So I can see a whole lot of problems with this amongst the donor and booster crowd. At Auburn it would mean know one within two rows front or back and at Tennessee and Alabama it would be four rows. They really cram them in there.
At Tennessee in 2004 I had a 200 lb women with her Knees in my back and breathing down my neck the whole first half. Thank God she left at halftime.

This is every fan at a UT game. They increase capacity by shrinking seat sizes.
