I don't see how someone can have a stolen gun and not know it was stolen.
Even if you buy a $500 pistol for $100 you have to know it was stolen. I don't see how you prove you didn't know it was stolen.

No, in LA it's a felony to be in possession of a firearm, legal or not, while in possession of an illegal narcotic.
ETA: Either Terd or WildTchop provided a link earlier. I don't remember which.

Why would anyone have to prove the didn't know. Bottom line is if they did not steal it on their own then...............

Keep fricking up Bama and A&M. Let ole miss coast through this shite storm.
I don't understand this point other than perhaps for post on this board, that in the end mean nothing. Let's hope whatever makes some headlines with completely unrelated things has no bearing on what the NCAA rules. Ole Miss is still fricked.

He likely has the benefit of being in a different state than the state where/when the gun was stolen. He can say he was a stranger to any circumstances surrounding the gun and had no way of knowing it was stolen.
Or, he might be guilty as shite and the cops have the goods on him.
I wonder how the cops knew the gun was stolen so quickly? Only a couple of possibilities.

Then they don't get charged with theft. You don't have to actually steal a gun to be charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Really?
Someone ever give you a gun - or any other nice gift for that matter - that wasn't new in the box?
How did you know it wasn't stolen?
Did you ever buy a used gun, TV, XBox, iPad, or anything else from Craigslist, a flea market, or simply someone you know?
If you paid a reasonably fair price, how did you know it wasn't stolen?
He may have know it was stolen. He may should have suspected it was stolen. Heck, he may be the guy that stole it, but there are also tons of legitimate ways a person could find themselves accidentally in possession of a stolen gun or any other item.
Just ask the guy that bought this gun.

Were they in Cam's truck? I am sure he just drives back home from Alabama.

I think his point is that the prosecution will have to show that he knew it was stolen. Probably need somebody to snitch. Good luck with that

While I think it's highly unlikely, the serial number could be filed off as well.
You would think Cam would be smart enough to not take the weapon in that case though.

Easy. They ran it through NCIC.
The national system they use to check your driver's license and car tag also contains stolen firearm information.
All the officer or dispatcher has to do is enter the serial number of the weapon and they get an instant answer. Assuming they've got mobile data terminals in their patrol cars, the officer knew the gun was stolen before he left the scene.
Posted on 5/17/16 at 12:57 pm to SECSolomonGrundy
Well, I agree there. Unless the serial numbers are scratched off or something it may be difficult to show that he knew it was stolen.

It's not a felony if you didn't know it was stolen. It's not illegal to own firearms, in case you didn't know.
In case you didn't know
