Bama would take Pruitt back immediately if we could...

To say otherwise means you don’t know what you’re talking about. In some other threads I’ve seen opposing fans state they don’t believe us when we say Bama would take him back tomorrow. He’s been a horrible head coach, but there has been a huge drop off in our defense since he left. I personally would demote Golding immediately to have Pruitt call plays and lead the defense and I think several Bama fans are of the same thought. Golding has been a disappointment up to this point even though there have been a ton of injuries. I’m actually hoping Pruitt has a large say as to what our defense is doing by seasons end.

Pruitt was good.

But isn’t Nick Sabam supposed to be a “defensive mastermind” - what exactly does he do these days?

Good question.

Dick Slaban is probably too busy counting the money in his wallet to care.

Can we let this season play out before we start firing/ demoting assistants?

But the thought of Pruitt making $4 million at BAMA,all of it paid by slUT,does bring a smile to my face.

I feel I posed a legitimate question. And the downvotes with no answers seems to solidify that.

Look at his career - post LSU:

Miami (2005): Richie Smith (#17 defense)
Miami (2006): Dom Capers (#5 defense)
Alabana (2007-15): Kirpy Smart (#6 defense)
Alabana (2016-17): Jeremy Pruitt (#1 defense)
Alabana (2018): Tosh Lupoi (#12 defense)
Alabana (2019): Peter Golding (#13 defense)

- Kirby/Pruitt/Capers are all elite defensive coaches.

- Lupoi, Golding, Smith are not elite.

Sagan is a good CEO (keeping the team focused and motivated) and recruiter - not denying that. Though his recruiting success is likely... illegitimate.

But he seems to be a bit overhyped when it comes to coaching defense.

Has weekly meetings with Steve Shaw and Greg Sankey as he tells them, finger wagging in their faces, "how he wants this thing run."

man do you ever get tired of spewing garbage? Saban has had a top defense for a longgggg time and the year we have a lot of youth and injuries you come with your predictable hyperbole. Shocking. You're a strange dude.

Very weird, extremely obsessed and needs extensive therapy.

Saban is the greatest coach the game has ever seen. Period. His greatest strengths are recruiting and developing of players...and just in general, running a very tight ship. If he has a weakness at all, it's gameday X's and O's. But to whatever degree it is a "weakness", it isn't enough of one to cast question on him being the greatest coach of all time. So this is just silly. Every one of us would kill for Saban as our coach.

as noted in my signature line, and it's not even an exaggeration. He is absolutely the most obsessed poster about another team than any other poster I've ever seen, and I've been on these sports boards since 1998.

And on Pruitt, perfect example of the Peter Principle (everyone rises to their level of incompetence). Hell of a DC and he'll be back there soon. For UT to have interviewed that bumpkin f*** and not recognized that he wasn't HC material is beyond me...only unusual circumstances like with Kirby or Muschamp (long seasoning for HC under a great HC and program) warrants a coordinator to HC jump at a major program. Pruitt's dumbass definitely wasn't the exception.

The rumors of Alabama's defensive decline have been greatly exaggerated. It's not going to match up with the great defenses of Saban's tenure simply because the talent and depth isn't there, but it's not going to be a deal breaker just yet. Let's wait until we actually need some defensive stops before we judge so harshly. The biggest issue that needs addressing is the run game and clock control.

Sounds like what Jimbo Fisher has been doing.

Alabama's defensive decline

I think it's 7 freshman starters on defense, all highly recruited. They'll be better by the end of the year, but moreover, they'll be really good the next 2 or 3 years.

Different scenario though. It was pretty obvious he was the best coach on staff, especially once Bobo left for CSU. Smart brought in a whole new staff and a lot of UGA fans wanted him to keep Pruitt. If Richt had stayed and Pruitt had left, a lot of people would've been upset. Pruitt is the only reason we were able to win ten games with perhaps the worst double digit win team in the country.

I honestly was glad Pruitt was let go as I thought it might cause problems with him being out from under Kirby's shadow for a few years and then going back under. Bringing in Mel was great because Mel had already worked under Kirby the previous year, so there was no immediate change to that relationship. Pruitt knows football really well, but the other parts of being a head coach seem to elude him. I do wonder if not being able to handle the other stuff well has affected his on field performance. He has complete head scratchers as a DC before, but he usually had it fixed pretty quickly by the next game. Tennessee is a complete cluster thingy right now.

Germs is only good when he has great players. I could have coached that Bama D.
