UAB has money.
Their new athletic foundation is about a month old. I'd guess they have less than $100 in the bank.

Bill Clark has, in one year, matched Garrick McGee's two year win total, and the season isn't over yet.
And, golly gosh wow, attendance is up! Could it be that maybe, just maybe, if we'd had competent head coaching at any time during the past 10-15 years, those attendance numbers you're harping on might be better?
ETA: For the "why not just concentrate on basketball" crowd, good idea, except that without football we're probably in the Sun Belt. The real one, not the neo-Sun Belt that currently is CUSA.

From the same link that I told yall how to get to earlier.
2013
UAB total Revenue
UAB total expenses
That doesn't look like they lost money to me. Both UAB and Bama have school subsidies in their budgets. Maybe you shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house gumps.
Also Alleva needs to sell more ads so LSU can drop the $3000 student fees for the athletic department.

Go Blazers!
A stadium on campus would be a great way to boost alumni interaction, student participation and help the economy of downtown Birmingham.
Legion Field has a great history, but it is so run down. The removal of the upper deck at least made me feel like the damn thing would not collapse and kill us.

Why are Auburn fans so mad in this thread?

LSU and Nebraska were the only 2 in 2007 (IIRC) that didn't need state tax $$, student fees (thank goodness because LSU has a ton of those already) or subsidies
As for UF, it has nothing to do with 'need', it is state law in Florida for athletic departments to take certain subsidies to fund women's athletics. If we had our choice, we wouldn't take any at all which is part of the reason the UAA donates so much money back to the school.

In last week's "poor UAB" thread, which was similarly overrun with AU fans, we discovered many of them seriously believe that UA somehow blocked UAB from hiring Jimbo, thus costing AU a national championship

God, there are a bunch of dumbasses in this thread. The endowments for the various schools have zero to with the football programs, and show alumni support for the school, not the football program. Alabama's football program is self-sustaining and was before Coach Saban came to the school. It subsidizes not only other athletic programs but academic programs, as well. UAB's program has never been self-sustaining, and has never had widespread support from fans, alums or the faculty.

'Preciate y'all's interest in the program.

From your link (which applied to athletic departments, not just football, which is referenced here):
quote:
- Alabama's program received nearly $5.5 million in institutional funds in 2012, up from more than $5.2 million in 2011. It reported sending nearly $4.4 million of an $16.7 million total surplus back to the university — $1 million for faculty support and nearly $3.4 million in licensing money. .

Pretty sad that one of the most successful teams in college football is so terrified of a Conference USA team. First y'all try to kill HUNH and now this? Alabama is like a spoiled 5 year old, who cries whenever he doesn't get his way.

Alabama's athletics department transferred $5.9 million to the university in 2013 for initiatives outside of athletics, according to the NCAA report. The university provided athletics with $5.8 million in direct institutional support, which the NCAA defines as institutional resources used for the current operations of athletics, including state funds and tuition waivers. No student fees were charged for the sixth consecutive year.

Most UAB students are Alabama fans anyway. And that goes for the vast majority of their alumni, too. I have yet to meet a die hard UAB Blazers football fan who doesn't put the Alabama Crimson Tide above them. Those fans don't exist and, if they do, they are a very endangered species.

The institutional funds were $$$ waived for out of state tuition. LSU waives out of state tuition for athletes also, they just don't consider it institutional aid.

So their should be 15-20 college football programs? Yes?
If they can pull their weight? Sure. Guess what. The University of Alabama controls the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Just like The University of Alabama controls the University of Alabama at Huntsville. The system's Board of Trustees has every right to remove football from the UAB athletic program.

Bottom Line. UAB has outgrown the UA BOT. They do not act in the best interests of UAB and have demonstrated this repeatedly. UA should be ashamed of its treatment of UAB. You would think the BOT would try to help ALL the schools under its domain.
It is one thing to support UA. However, it is another to turn a blind eye to the disregard with which Bryant Jr. treats UAB.
